Backpacking while pregnant

Are there any ladies who continued to hike/backpack during pregnancy? If so, how long into pregnancy before you stopped?

Depends on the elevation. If it’s something you did pre pregnancy it’s healthy and encouraged to continue with limitations. You don’t want to make drastic elevation changes. Remember if you’re out of breathe your baby may have lower oxygen so take your time and don’t push for new limits.

I ran a marathon at 27 weeks and kept running til 32 weeks when sciatica became an issue. Kept walking and hiking until the day my water broke (35 weeks + 2)

I was wondering the same… I want to backpack but I’m not sure if it’s safe to clip in the strap around your waist… keep me posted if you find out!

I plan on shed hunting. So I will be hiking around off trail. I plan on taking it easier than I would normally and just listening to my body. But I will be 7 months when we can go shed hunting. I live at 5,432 ft elevation.

I did 🤷‍♀️ as long as i felt good. I did some stuff at higher elevation but went slow and took it easy. In fact I walked almost 5 miles hiding easter eggs at a school and went into labor that night so i was quite active right up until delivery. I think its up to you and how your body feels.

I did with my daughter my OB ok’d it and just said into the second trimester when baby is up above your pelvis make sure the hip belt isn’t across them. I stuck to daypacks as I got bigger but still was really active up until I went into labor 2 days past due date.

I was still hiking and backpacking early on - up till about 16-18 weeks. I was still hiking at lower elevations and keeping distances under 10 mi/day through about 32 weeks, but have had to dial it back a bit lately (36 w currently)

I stopped in my third trimester after having covid and BP issues but would’ve probably gone into labor on a trail if I wasn’t just so sick at the end there! Will be hiking all the way through next pregnancy! Bring a hiking stick, I fell without one

Yes, I backpacked on three trips doing 10 mile days, at between 6000-10,000 feet. I found the hip belt supported my bump well. I didn’t find it more difficult than backpacking pre-pregnancy. Baby was full term, 90th percentile for weight at birth.

We went for 3 weeks (19w-23w) backpacking across the Mediterranean. Definitely was tough physically but so worth it. We still plan on hiking locally for the third trimester. The waist strap was a bit annoying because I was constantly adjusting it as my bump changes throughout the day
