Oversupply/ fast let down and increased trapped wind

I am exclusively breastfeeding, I have an oversupply/ fast let down milk literally is squrting out. Therefore when breastfeeding often baby coughs/splurts. I have been doing laid back position to help slow it down, but unfortunately baby latches on shallow as a result of this causing increased air intake. And then it is a cycle. Any help on what I can do to help? or anyone else with other experiences, I'm not sure if expressing bottle is going to be any better for him? this also causes an oversupply too? or other techniques I can use so he doesn't swallow as much air.

I had the same problem especially in the mornings. I would use my Hakka to let down a little, not very much, just enough so that the breast wasn’t to hard and engorged (meaning shallow latch for me). I also used I think it’s called the ‘c hold’ to make sure baby had a deep latch. It’s hard not to want to just pump it out but you’re right, it can cause even more of an oversupply. I found the haaka only took out as much as I wanted and it didn’t affect my supply. Hope any of that helped. Good luck with your little one 🥰

I’m having that problem too! It is a cycle, I’ll try that haaka trick and see if it helps.. There’s a Frida/ haaka wind bottom sucker 🥴 that sounds like it might be worth trying too..

I'm having the same problem and it's driving me insane.

Could have written this exact post myself 😖 going to try the hakka too xx

I'm also struggling with the same issue. Thanks @Katie for the tips!

@Taylor I could have written this post and I tried the Windi tool yesterday when baby was screaming with wind. It’s really not as bad as it looks to do, but honestly, it didn’t stop the crying and more wind quickly built up. Sadly doesn’t seem to be that good of a solution. 😞

I am also have massive issues with wind, how do you actually known if you have a fast let down? When I squeeze my nipple m/ hand express some of the ducts spray out, does that mean I have a fast leg down?

Yeppppp. Very annoying. There's only so far you can lean back 😅 In the daytime I wear medela milk collection shells rather than breast pads so the milk can just drip out. Unfortunately, you can't sleep with then in, as they'll fill up I expect and then you'll be a soggy mess, but they're great in the daytime. It should ease up with time but appreciate its very annoying at the mo

Not sure if this will apply to anyone, but I went to my local breastfeeding group yesterday and was advised that I’m still holding my baby the same way I was when she was first born, but she’s four weeks now and so much longer, I need to have her legs wrapping around my side to get her head in the right position, or scrunched up, but that really helped getting her further over, and leaning back.. in the night I’m draping her across my stomach diagonally and that position seems to work well when fully reclined and we’re not struggling with wind in the middle of the night which is fab.. the lady also said to massage breast tissue a bit to mix hind and fore milk up? Which might thicken milk and slow it down? Something like that, I got lost at that point..
