My 2.5 year old is pretty advanced verbally, she speaks in full sentences constantly, but lately sheâs started speaking in this fake âgibberishâ language too. My husband and I try to ignore it but sheâs doing it more and more (but not regressing in other speech.)
She also repeats phrases a lot and likes âscriptingâ but can easily have a regular conversation too.
Does anyone elseâs kiddo do this? Is it just a phase?
When I google it, I only find results about toddlers who are speech delayed which isnât her. The other thing that comes up is autism or other neurodivergence which obv stresses me out a bit.

I used to babysit a 5 year old, and she would have those days, too. Iâm not sure whyâŠ

Mine is 2, so a bit younger, but I notice she will be so clear in her sentences and then go through a babbling phase, mostly while playing. She always comes out of it. It comes and goes. I would say it sounds normal to me.
Donât worry, she sounds like a bright little girl to me if sheâs speaking in sentences. I know all too well the black hole of Google and all the WebMD diagnoses.

My son is doing this exact thing! He just turned 2 but since he was very young heâs had exceptional speech and vocabulary. Now all the sudden my husband and I look at each other like what the hell did he just say lol is he speaking English?! Then he switches right back into his usual basically full sentences. Iâm suspecting itâs just a phase because he doesnât show any other âred flagsâ for anything more serious. Nice to know other kids are doing this too lol

If sheâs not missing milestones and is able to communicate just fine, I wouldnât worry too much about it. Thatâs not to say that she is not neurodivergent, the autism spectrum is wide and filled with people that are very verbal and can communicate just fine. Kids also go through phases, they pick up funny habits. I would address the jibberish and say something like âI donât speak that language or I donât know what youâre sayingâ. But if those milestones are being met and she is healthy, I wouldnât stress about it. Definitely contact your dr if you are really concerned.

Maybe sheâs just being silly? Idk

Maybe wants a bit more attention? My cousinâs lo âfake criesâ when she wants attention đ

Phase! As long as she is still speaking the words she knows regularly i think its fine!

thank you!! Those internet spirals can be so worrying!!

this is so helpful to hear itâs not just us!!

thank you!! Sheâs hitting all milestones so this is helpful. We do tell her that we canât understand when she speaks her âfake wordsâ but she thinks itâs funny ha

that could totally be it

could be! I feel like she gets a ton of attention but we always do want more donât we! Haha

thank you!!
