Baby weight

My baby boy is 10 months and weight only 8kg. He is reaching all his milestones and an active baby. Exclusively breastfed. Anyone we meet they comment how weak he is, he weigh nothing which makes me very sad to hear and I have started to feel a horrible mom. Is there anyone in the group with similar age weight baby? Seeking reassurance.

Hi, please don’t stress… your not a horrible mom. Your amazing & your doing a fantastic job! From looking at the growth chart, your little bubba seems to be between the 10 and 25th centile which basically means that 75% of babies his age would be bigger then him and 25% would be smaller. As long as your little one is drinking and having his solids and is gaining weight steadily (not lost weight) then I wouldn’t be too concerned. You say he’s meeting all his milestones so that’s great! Your doing fantastic! Keep your head high and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. If you have any concerns, speak to your child nurse or GP. I had a similar issue with my bubba and his weight when he was little, and I felt terrible because he hadn’t gained us much weight as he should have… he dropped from 50th to 25th centile, the child nurse just monitored is weight for a month and wasn’t too concerned. Also, breastfed babies are generally smaller and lighter compared to formula fed babies. xxxy

Is he eating solids ok? Maybe he's just long. My baby is 10 months and weighs around 8kg, she's in the 50th percentile and people comment on her chubbiness (not overly chubby- but chubby little cheeks and legs 😁). Babies come in all different shapes and sizes I think it's actually quite rude for people to make such negative comments about his size/weight.
