Can people please share their experiences with the above? Our girl was put on Gaviscon on Friday for reflux and although it has helped the reflux she is now screaming in pain because she is constipated. It also now seems if she has a bottle without any Gaviscon her reflux is worse than before.
Have people struggled with Gaviscon but Omeprazol has worked? Or are we going to have the same problem?

Instead of every Oz of water having gaviscon in it, we tend to do 1 sachet per 6oz bottle. It seems to work well for both reflux and keeping constipation at bay!

I think it depends on how many sachets you do a day I know they say up to 6? But I do 2 or 3 and she still spits up a little but not as much!!
And she isn’t constipated, think it’s finding that balance

do you split the 2-3 sachets across all feeds or do some with and some without?

We're on omeperazole and no issues so far.
Both work differently, with the aim of stopping the pain and discomfort of the acid reflux. Gaviscon works as an antacid neutralizing stomach acid and also weighs down feed to try keep it in the stomach. Hence why given throughout the day.
Omeperazole is a PPI and works to reduce the stomach acid altogether and once a day is sufficient.

My baby girl is 4 months now & has been on Omeprazole for roughly 2 months - it's a game changer honestly!! Gaviscon just made her constipated but she is like a different baby since being prescribed Omeprazole, alongside prescription milk for CMPA 😊 it does take about 2 weeks to fully kick in so you have to persevere with it, but we found it much better than Gaviscon.

hi Amy! We’ve just started on Omeprazole- my little one spits up all day every day and they recommended we try this for her discomfort (she’s usually a happy spitter but won’t go on her back and struggles to sleep etc). How has it been for you and have you noticed any side effects?

Thanks everyone, I’ll try and get her back into the GP today as she’s still struggling with constipation and is now projectile vomiting every feed 🙃 really wish we never put her on anything, really feel like we were managing it okay before all of this

We tried gaviscon and it did nothing. We now use omeprazole which has stopped him having acid and getting congested etc and has made him sleep much better. He is much much better although he does still spit up after most feeds.
Our omeprazole is suspension medicine rather than the one you dissolve and give to baby. I'd strongly recommend the suspension on thayvthe pharmacist makes up. We mix it with about 5/10ml of formula. It costs over £100 a bottle and last 28 days so some doctors are reluctant to prescribe.
Our GP friend has said to think of Reflux as a sympton not a problem in itself. We are trying osteopathy to help our baby with general digestion issues but until we get there omeprazole has been a life saver

My little one has just been prescribed the omeprazole mups 10mg but I find it quite hard to get her to take it I dissolve it In an oral syringe with 6ml of water, GP recommended 10ml but with a very refluxy baby this is impossible! It still stays very gritty ans grainy and I've no idea how much she's managed to keep down. Is there some sort of liquid alternative ?

A lot of people have said this @Jessica . There is an oral suspension liquid that is much much easier. My baby wouldn't take it by itself so I give it with a tiny bit of formula. It's over £100 a bottle and so some GPs are reluctant to prescribe it but it's brilliant. Our baby only needs 2ml- it's based on weight.

does anyone know if you can mix the pre mixed liquid omeprazole with a tiny bit of expressed breast milk to make it easier for baby to swallow? The thick consistency of the liquid medicine just isn’t staying down when we give it to my little boy so want to put a tiny bit of breast milk and mix it in if possible, just don’t want it to hinder the effects of it working
