Homeschooling with depression

Hi! I'm going to be homeschooling my 19 month old when the time comes. I'm also a SAHM. My only concern is the recurring depression I have. What if I'm depressed for a few days and we don't get anything done? I don't want to set a bad example for my child. Any advice?

I know how you feel. I will have days of this! I have learned that with my kids they come into my room and we take that time to watch educational shows, read and i always have paper work sheets they can do. But this is the benefit of homeschooling, you can adjust it around a life’s bumps But you got this mama, you will do amazing

My son is 4, and I've honestly explained to him the best of my ability to what he can understand, to what depression is and how it affects me.(there are some really great books on Amazon too for explaining parental depression to kids) He knows I have good days, and those are the days we will really get into stuff learning or possibly a little outdoor "field trip." On my bad days, especially the really bad ones, I'll set him up with educational videos, games, or even set up multiple sensory crafts. Like the previous comment said that is one of the beauties of homeschooling is managing around those life bumps.

I think it's great to take a few days off for depression and I think it's great our kids see and know we do. Taking care of our mental health is huge and we need to teach our children the same. My oldest is in the school system and she's forced to go to school when she's not feeling well. Mentally or physically. I also have depression. It's great to homeschool because it's your own schedule. You can take days off. If you have any other questions, please feel free to message me. We've been homeschooling for 8 years now 🤍

I think that’s the beauty of homeschool. Honor yourself and your kids learn to honor themselves too and the season of life they’re in. That’s a rich lesson they’re not gonna learn from mainstream schools mama.

That's the beauty of homeschooling. You can take your (& your child’s) mental health into account AND make it a learning experience. Homeschooling to me isn't just about the typical lessons or structured learning (we unschool so we don't do any of that anyway 🤪)... it's about become a life long learner. When I'm having a hard time I may take a break from certain things but the things I'm most passionate about I always come back to.
