Potty training

Hi everyone. My child was 3 earlier this month and still not toilet trained. We’ve been trying since she turned 2. We’ve had little breaks, trying again after a month. Still no luck. Now she’s 3 I keep thinking she’s doing well, then she goes and has 8 accidents the rest of the day. She won’t tell me when she needs to potty, she will have wees on the potty and sometimes I get her off and she just wees in her pants. I took away the nappies in the day time a few months ago. She just doesn’t seem to notice or care when she wees. We have even tried the no pants method, still nothing. However when I ask her where does wee wee and poo poo go and she says on the potty. She does a big wee the majority of times I put her on. Anyone have any words of advice or just encouragement. I’ve been putting her on the potty about every 15 minutes and seem to miss her wees. I just don’t know what to do anymore.

I used the book "Oh crap potty training" and it worked like a charm. We potty trained just before 2 and it took 1 week. She was in reusable so I think that helped too. We haven't done night time but in the day she's been dry since January 2021. I really recommend the book

I also recommend Oh Crap Potty Training, it really helps teach your kid how to follow their own body cues. You also need to stick it out with the training. Too often parents get scared off because their kids are having accidents. Accidents are part of the learning process! You need to be patient, consistent and give it time. Your child will get where they need to be, just don't give up and trust the process.

@Jaclynn we’ve looked into that method but because we live with my parents for the time being their house is carpeted. We are expecting to move in the next month or 2 so I don’t know whether to just hold off until then then start that method

I just ordered the book so I can start preparing and we’ll give it a good go when we can, I’m aiming to carry on with her pants until then. Hopefully it’ll work for her. Thankyou x

Your parents potty trained you so they should be okay with it. I have carpets too. Wee is sterile cleans up xx

@Katy trust me they’re not. When I was toilet trained we had all hard floors. Not worth fighting over with my mum

@Katy I keep discussing it with her and she just says it’s not allowed in her house.

Ok, so moving is going to disrupt your child's routine so much, her training is going to get thrown off anyway. You can continue to practice using whatever method your parents find acceptable in their home, if you want. But I'd let her get settled in the new home, then try Oh Crap Potty Training with full commitment, no going back.
