Fit to fly letter

Hi, has anyone had any success getting a fit to fly letter? Flying out I'll be fine, but on the way home I'll be 2 days over the 28 week limit for TUI. Midwife said she could only sign it if the airline had a template or else it needs to be the gp. GP said they aren't legally permitted to do it because they've not seen me throughout my pregnancy which does make sense but it is very frustrating! Not sure how I'm supposed to get one if no one will help me?!

Me! Not true what the gp said or mine just did it anyway. My GP wrote me a letter (2 sentences) for £20 and he has not seen me at all. I would get a letter flying out and the gp should really say its ok to fly back on whatever day - i mean you are flying back home.

Oh and I had my letter 4 weeks ago but I'm only flying out next Sunday (he dated it). So the gp really didn't care to even ask me if all is ok plus anything could happen in that 5 weeks gap but I guess it's common sense if anything is not right I would call up etc.

Would they know you are just over the 28 weeks? Or do they just ask any pregnant woman I wonder 🤔 I'm flying on Wednesday but will only be 24+3 and don't know whether I should get a letter just in case!

@Niki you should be fine as you're 24 weeks. It seems to be 28/30 weeks, airline's ask for one. I'm tempted to just wear baggy clothes and hope no one notices 😅

@Anett ah it is so frustrating. As if they charged you without even seeing you but good you got one! 🙄 it is annoying there isn't just a set nhs process on this and the midwives/GPS don't seem to speak to eachother. 🤷‍♀️ I think im going to keep hassling the gp. I'd happily book an appt and go through my notes but they even said no to that!

I got a fit to fly letter a few weeks ago and did it through the GP. Midwife is at the practise so all my notes are obviously on the system but they did it without seeing me at all and I just picked it up from the office. Tbf the airline didn’t even ask to see it (although with a big jumper on I’m not obviously pregnant).

Ps airline should have a template some where. I used a template off the Jet2 website.

Does TUI have anything you can print out for the midwife to sign? We are doing a short break to Rome and I will be 30 weeks on my flight home my midwife has said to bring it along to my appointment and she will stamp and sign it for me. I wonder if you made a template yourself could your midwife just sign and stamp it? Xx

I spoke to my midwife and she said they would be able to just write a note to say pregnancy is progressing normally and would be ok to fly. I don't fly until I'm 30 weeks and return at 31 x

Complete opposite but my GP did a letter free of charge to say I wasn’t fit to fly to original destination (due to Zika virus) so then TUI allowed me to change my destination free of charge xx

Our Gp apparently is referring everyone to zoomdoc, looked them up and they have good reviews and issue the same day for £40 x

Thank you everyone! Unfortunately TUI doesn't have a template, I've asked for that as my midwife said she'd sign that. I might just write my own template and then ask her. Also thank you @Nicole re zoom docs! Just looked them up and that looks like a good option! 👍

I went through this just 3 days ago. My midwife won't issue a letter because they are not insured, and my GP charged me £40 as it's considered to be "private work" without seeing me. Got issued in a day. If your GP is being difficult and the midwife isnt able to help, you can search for a doctor to do it privately, seeing that it is a paid for service anyway x

I’ll be flying at 31 weeks pregnant and my midwife will write me a fit to fly letter. They shouldn’t take it off you so it’ll be valid there and back. She said easyJet make them fill out a form online but we are Ryanair , not sure about TUI.
