Low placenta / flying

Has anyone else been told they have a low lying placenta? The sonographer identified my placenta as low but not covering (1cm away from cervix) at the 20 week scan but never mentioned anything about what I could/couldn’t do so have been carrying on as normal. I don’t know why but decided to have a quick google as wanting to maybe book an abroad holiday next month but saw some websites saying that we shouldn’t fly if we have this, so asked my midwife today and she said she’s not sure but believes the issue would be if you were to bleed during the flight it’d be a long time to get to a hospital, not the flight causing an issue itself. Does anyone else have this and are thinking of flying/have already? There’s so much conflicting advice from all points 🙃

Mines slightly low lying (18mm rather than 20mm away) and wasn’t told anything, currently sat on the beach in Cyprus ☀️

@Toni ah thank you! That gives me hope haha, enjoy the sun ☀️

I have low-lying placenta as well the doctor told me it’s not a problem it will move by itself, haven’t felt any different either.

At 22 weeks mine was low lying and now at 27 weeks on Thursday it’s now high! My consultant yesterday told me a majority of women’s placentas will move as they get bigger so maybe it’s not the case for you anymore? Depends how far along you are x

Thanks girls! And that’s really good news @Lexy especially as it’s moved so quickly! The nhs booked me for another scan at 32 weeks to check but I’m tempted to get a private one in quickly maybe as I’m 24 weeks now so maybe it’s moved 🧐 my fault for bloody googling lol x

I have a low lying placenta but haven’t googled anything and went on holiday last week and have another booked in may 😁 I just assumed as the other girls have said the placenta will get higher as the bump grows xx

@Leanne yeah! She said a really low percentage doesn’t move. If you do get a private scan get a 4D done it’s so worth it 😍 x

Mine is completely covering and I was advised not fly! Your risk is probably lower if it’s just low lying but for me not worth the risk of bleeding and not being able to get to a hospital / care not being very good abroad xx

I was told mine is low but not told how low. 90% of the time it'll move up by itself, 10% it won't. I was told to not have sex and also not to lift anything heavy. Bleeding is apparently normal and if it happens, call MAU. Unless you were told not to fly, you should be fine. I chose not to go away just incase I bled etc, but that was personal choice x

I just got back from Lanzarote. I have been told to continue as normal and it happens a lot. Will be scanned at 32 weeks to see if it's moved, they said 85 percent of peoples moves up. X

@Lexy will they tell u in 4d scan if it's still low? D

@Donna you can ask where your placenta is, I asked at my 16 week scan x

@Lexy cuuuute! I think I’m still a little early so I’ve booked one for the end of the month 😍 excited now!

Thanks ladies! So helpful, the sonographer never said anything like this just let me know then sent me on my merry way haha so I’m assuming unless they’ve said so I should be okay?! But thank you for your thoughts x
