CMPA - weaning

New mum here but my 3 month old has CMPA and is on SMA Althera milk (which is helping loads), I'm wanting to start weaning him from 4 months (2 weeks time) but wondering what foods to start him on? Is Ella's kitchen all dairy/lactose free? What do others recommend?

I think all the 4 month pouches are dairy free as they’re mainly fruit and veg. I make my boy steamed veg and blend it up with his formula, hes 4 months too x

Ella’s kitchen has a few that are dairy free but lots of them have cheese or milk added. We started on the 4m+ vegetable purées, then moved to fruit purées and the latest are the fruit flavoured wafers (kiddilicious) as they are dairy free. If you want to do baby led weaning, the Solid Starts app is really helpful.

I got baby rice instead of baby porridge as I couldn’t find a dairy free alternative, and I put a bit of fruit purée in it but he’s not a fan. I think it tastes pretty bland, so he just has veg. His fav so far is mashed potato and pea purée! (Mash had a tiny bit of dairy free butter and his formula instead of milk) x

No. Not all of Ella’s kitchen are. We started on blander foods, compared to the citric/stronger foods. Banana, sweet potato, carrots etc are what we found best to start with. You can get the pouches, but please check the back for ingredients as some contain milk (idk why?!?). We bought the Tommee tippee steamer and blender and that is how I began weaning - making our own purées so I knew exactly what was in them, and you can add your baby’s prescribed milk to make it smoother etc. We are doing a mixture of BLW and purée so I was giving finger foods too (once baby was old enough). My little one also had dairy free yogurts and she loves these!! Best selection I think is from Tesco for these. Snacks - kiddylicious wafers, Ella’s kitchen melty puffs and melty sticks. Aldi also have a fabulous dairy free baby range

Thank you ladies x

@Courtney 99% sure you can use Ready Brek made with baby’s milk for a smooth porridge. Due to the texture of the oats it’s recommended from 6 months I think.

@Chloe yes I read you can give it from 6 months so I’m going to try him with it around June time

Aptamil strawberry and banana porridge is dairy free as you mix it with formula/milk alternative. I'd say its the same texture as baby rice and you can add more milk to make it thinner too

@Amy oh I’ll try and get some!

Just be careful as if they have CMPA they may have allergies to other things too! I stick to the dairy free porridge and fruit and veg unless I make it and know that I’m not adding anything- my little one is funny with oats and rice
