Car doesn't have air conditioning

Not a situation most people would be in I guess but our cars air conditioning doesn't work. Obviously you know how hot a car can get if it's been parked up for a while in the summer and I'm really worried about it being too hot to put baby into when we're coming home from the hospital. My solution right now would be to get my husband to go out and run the car for a bit and air it out in the car park, I could just sit in the cafeteria with baby until its cooled down a bit then take baby out, but I worry it just won't be cool enough, especially if we're sitting at a light or something and there's no breeze coming through the windows. I'll have a handheld fan though, I'm just so paranoid. The drive home from the hospital is only 5-7 minutes so I'm sure we'd be okay but any suggestions on how to cool down a car with no air conditioning would be great. (We do plan on getting a new car in the next year or so)

I think if you put fresh air in the car after running it for a few mins with the windows down you should be fine. Our car doesn’t have aircon and ours will be a 20 min drive home. Just let the nurses know your plan so you can check that you’ve dressed baby with the best amount of layers! You got this mama!

Could be worth looking to get some sunshades for the windows to block out as much heat as possible? 🙂

What about option to just get taxi home if only 5 mins and save on parking fees

Hey, my car doesn’t have air con at all as it’s nearly 20 years old 😵‍💫. I have a toddler and although it’s not ideal when it’s really hot (like those 40 degree days last year), you make it work. Windows down, fan on, definitely make sure you have those sun shades on the back windows to block sun directly onto the baby. I’m sure a lot of us grew up with cars that had no air con (no idea how!), but we managed to survive! Your baby right at the beginning will like it warm anyway!

Is it worth giving those reflectors a try? So if your car is parked in the sun for a while… cover the windscreen with a mirrored/reflective liner and it works well to keep the heat out? Then as others have said, use sunshades on the side windows. I think if you open the windows for a through breeze and have a handheld fan that would be great though and nothing to worry about! We survived many years without air con 😅 but also - every little helps! Xx
