I had insurance coverage but even if I didn’t, I gladly would have paid double that for the privacy. 100% worth it. You will want the privacy and sharing a room means even less sleep than you’re already in for. Remember, babies wake up at all different times so a room full of babies overnight means no sleep for anyone.
I had a private room in Lakeridge Oshawa for my delivery in Feb this year. I had insurance coverage. But as mentioned previously, I would have easier paid the full price in case I didn’t have the coverage. Totally worth it. In addition to the points mentioned before, it helps to have the bathroom to yourself after delivery and not share it with others.
If you're work benefit covers semi private room (shared) it's 50$ more a day for full private. I only stayed a couple of days and I would definitely do private again. With semi private, there's a chance you're partner may not be able to stay overnight with you if the other woman doesn't want that
@Amanda totally never thought of that point I would’ve been so lost without my boyfriend there all night with me especially after a C section I needed help getting up and down. But you know what I would probably feel uncomfy with a random man staying in my hospital room so I can see that from both sides for sure!
I only had ohip coverage and it was fine with me ! They give you a private decently sized room for the labour part so while you give birth you are in a private room but once the baby comes they move you into a room shared with another woman but it's curtained off. I didn't mind it wasn't so bad at all
My boyfriend stayed on the cot with me the night as well
I had the option we opted out last min after we spoke with the nurse she told us they weren't busy and ended up having complete privacy anyways ! It can change in a min but it was completely slow and ended up in our favour ❤️
I got lucky with my last baby and ended up in a private room because that's what was available and didn't have to pay. The privacy is 100% worth it. I would pay to have that again.
I had a private room at Lakeridge Oshawa this past November and let me tell you it’s expensive but I wouldn’t have traded it for the world. Especially since I had a C section and my baby ended up going right into the NICU for a short while. I don’t think I could’ve been around other moms and their babies without meeting mine and knowing he was a hallway away. (Had to wait for my freezing to wear off) it would’ve broken me. The privacy is also unmatched. Having my partner be able to come and go and sleep wherever and however he wanted. There was a cot provided for him but sometimes he’d snuggle in with me. Plus when our baby was finally wheeled into our room to be with us the moment was so special! I also couldn’t imagine hearing so many different cries trying to differentiate which is yours. You have only just met them. I’d imagine I wouldn’t get much sleep! Looking back I would do this a million times over!
