What qualifies as an over producer?

Does it mean you make more than your baby eats? Because this is one side and there’s no way my four month old is eating both sides lol

I’d say yes definite over producer! ❤️

Yes anything over what your baby eats is an over producer :) for example if your baby consumes 30 ounces a day and you make 40 ounces a day that qualifies you as over producer it’s not so much about the amount. For example, if a mother of twins produce is 60 ounces, but her babies in total eat 70 oz per day then she’s technically underproduce her, even though she produces a large amount of milk. :)

I have the opposite problem. What is your diet like? I wish I could produce more. What are you eating and drinking?

What the other girls said! Just to add/elaborate, if you get that much at one pump session and baby doesn’t eat that much for one feed, it doesn’t necessarily make you an over producer. You have to look at how much you produce in 24 hours compared to what baby eats in 24 hours. You could hypothetically produce 10oz one pumping session and 2oz another session, etc.. and average out for the whole day making just enough for baby.

@Anna HOW???? TIPS PLEASE 🙏

@Luna well it’s different for everyone but coffee, body armor lyte, and water work for me🤷🏻‍♀️I read that caffeine can also stimulate milk production but it can also irritate your baby, so depending on if your baby is sensitive to caffeine or not, but just in general staying hydrated helps me, and my diet isn’t special, like today I ate waffles and scrambled eggs with bell peppers and mushrooms scrambled in and for lunch I was lazy and ate more waffles😂

@Moriah right well I only use the Haakaa for catching milk and my four month old nurses frequently so that also picks my my milk supply, so I’ve stored a lot of milk my haakaa caught for the past 4 months but my baby hates drinking it out of a bottle so I think my milks just going to waste☹️

@Luna also my baby nurses quite frequently, to sleep, for comfort, all in all she acts like it’s a full time job, so that also keeps my milk supply up😅

@Meena I don’t have a special diet, just staying hydrated and also my baby eats quite frequently so that really keeps my production up, even tho she mostly eats for comfort or to go to sleep, I’m not sure she is ever hungry 😂 but eating enough and drinking enough water and coffee and body armor lytes helps me

@Meena and today I ate scrambled eggs with bell peppers mushrooms and coffee

@Anna Aww, well you could use some of it for breastmilk popsicles when LO starts teething! Or you could try feeding breastmilk through a sippy cup instead of bottle? Our babies are almost old enough for sippy cups and that makes me sad 🥲

@Anna thank you, I must try body armor. How much do you eat in a day? Like how many meals, how heavy? I don't eat too much as I should for breastfeeding, that is why I think my production is less.

@Moriah see yeah they get so big so fast😭when should I try a supply cup? My LO is only four months

@Anna I haven’t tried a sippy cup yet because my baby takes a bottle but this resource seems good! https://www.babycenter.com/baby/solids-finger-foods/sippy-cup-dos-and-donts_1439508#:~:text=If%20your%20breastfeeding%20baby%20doesn,need%20for%20an%20additional%20transition. Honestly if your baby can’t quite hold the cup yet, I might try it anyways and just help them hold it. Maybe get a couple different types of sippy cups to see if one works better.

@Luna well I eat three meals and sometimes snack, I’ve been getting so hungry lately because my baby eats so much

@Moriah thanks 🫶🏻

Anything more than 4 Oz per pumping session I was told is over producing

@Anna thanks for sharing. I have a terribly fussy baby the past few days which had made it difficult to do anything including eating but I am trying to when I can.

@Meena of course 🩵hope it all works out
