Working & Pumping

So my baby is only 6 wks and my deep freezer and half of my freezer is full of milk but I still have to pump while away from baby because my breast will get sore and leak. Should I just start dumping the milk I pump at work cause I have no room for it ?

You can use it during baths for baby.

Wow what a great supply! Could you donate to your local hospital? Or I know here in the UK there’s a Facebook page people can donate their milk through for those struggling/unable to breastfeed their babies, not sure if that’s an option near you

Definitely don’t dump it. You’ll need to find somewhere to store it just depending on how long you plan to offer breastmilk. I would also recommend storing less in the bags based on the amount you offer your baby during a feeding. Otherwise you’re having to use the whole bag and could possibly have to throw out whatever you heat up but don’t use. Overall, it just goes based off of what your breastfeeding journey looks like. Sometimes when we go back to work out supply can go down.

You can donate it! I donated about 10L bc I ran out of room too😂

Hooooly oversupply. How long are you away from your baby? I would find some other use for it like baths and/or donating. Or give it to your toddler as a drink!

Donate it! There are moms out there that can’t breastfeed but baby has allergies, or they can use it in the nicus

You can either donate it or use it for a baby bath but your breasts are sore because your body is so used to making so much. You can slowly decrease it by getting rid of a pumping session every 4 days. Then your body should adjust to just what you need. Also whilst you are away from any just pump enough to be comfortable (beter to just hand express to not stimulate your breasts that much) and then your body will adjust too. But I am not sure what you are aiming for? Do you want to keep up the supply?

Has anyone told you that you are a superhero? Because you are!!

@Abbie oh wow I didn’t even think about donating to the hospital. I’m going to see if I can do that , w my first I donated some to moms that also had babies in the NICU but that was through the mom and not the actual hospital.

@Monét I work 8hr shifts 4 days a week.

@Melissa I plan on nursing until 2. The bags be so costly because they go so fast so I usually put 4-6oz in each depending on how much I pump. He just started drinking 4oz bottles.

@Annabelle when I’m with baby I feed every 2 hours but I only pump twice at work. At 9am and at 12pm around 1030 they still be in pain and once I get off they’re in pain. I only pump while I work though which is 4 days a week. While I was on maternity leave I pumped daily though. I just want to to keep my supply up long enough to nurse until he turns 2 but still be able to pump what’s needed while im working. I don’t want the oversupply

@Jessica thank you so much 🫶🏾

@Nae i get it. I only ever offered my baby about 2 oz at a time and would offer more if he still seemed hungry. I went back to work around 5/6 months. That was usually when he started taking 4oz bottles. But because breastmilk adapts to baby’s needs I made sure not to bag more than 2-4 oz.

Please donate it. Those moms will remember what you did for the rest of their lives ❤️

Sign up to Donate it to a hospital, you will have to have some checks but it would be such a nice thing to do, I wish I did it, I ended up dumping mine x

You can sell some make some extra money. You can also make soaps and stuff from it. I have the opposite problem and am not producing enough. I have to feed him from both breasts and then still give him a couple ounces of formula to be satisfied. I'm hoping my supply increases. 🙏🏼

Donate to a milk bank at a hospital! My son was 14 weeks early and I couldn't ever produce. He received donor milk while in the nicu and I was beyond grateful.

@Nae I did the same while I was working pumping twice a day and going home with like 14+ ounces a day I was running out of space. It’s summer for me, I’m a teacher so I’m not pumping just ebf

What pump do you use, if you don’t mind me asking please? X

I wish my supply was like that 🥲 it was so hard for me to pump milk I tried everything. Lactation cookies, lactation drops, mothers milk drops.. it was horrible. This is amazing!

Donate!

NICU babies would benefit greatly 🥹

Yes to donate. This is what I do. Although I just ebf and have done for 9m now. I pump once a day more so at the time it was to get the hang of the pump and find out what method worked for me. However I kept the one session and just donate monthly. :)

Holy awesome!! I was proud with my two bags I have frozen for my month old 😂 I hope you can donate that’s be amazing!!

Wow this is the most amazing problem to have and you should count your blessings!

@Nikou couldn't agree more. The most I ever pumped was 1oz😭 and that was after 6 months of power pumping every night for an hour

I found a breastmilk "sharing" group on Facebook for my area and helped other moms in need. They would buy replacement bags for me in exchange

You can donate to a local mother's milk bank. Google should pull up your local ones.

you should donate 🤍

Donate or sell it. There’s lots of moms wanting breast milk

If you store in smaller volumes and freeze flat you can probably fit more. The bottles also probably take more room too. I have a huge stand up freezer and it was stacked with milk. Once I started freezing 5 oz flat and then stacking them in gallon bags I was able to fit a lot more in the freezer.
