Hubby is not a pet lover, what to do??

Hello! I wanted to seek some advice regarding a situation with my husband. He isn't keen on having pets in our home. Growing up in my family, we always had various pets like birds, bunnies, cats, snakes, and dogs. I cherished my childhood because of these pets and have a deep appreciation for them. However, my husband never had any pets at home, and he believes that they are bothersome, bring about unpleasant smells, require responsibility, and so on.

To provide some background, I am originally from the Philippines, while my husband is from India. We met in Shanghai, where I had a cat as a pet, and they seemed to have a strong bond (that’s what I saw when we were dating) When we got married, he promised that we would have a pet dog at the very least. Unfortunately, due to various circumstances such as frequent moves across different countries, that promise was not fulfilled. Now that we are settled here in Abbotsford, even though we are currently renting, I brought up the idea once again. However, he responded by suggesting that we consider getting a pet dog only when we have our own house. I feel that this is gonna take long. I actually only desired a small dog, nothing more.

PS. - currently my Shanghai cat is in the care of my mom in my home country, couldn’t bring her here due to some documentation issue.
