My cousin is Imani and we call her Moni or Monay (pronounced mow-nay)

my child is already born she’s almost a year,,, and why do you think a nickname means their original name would be forgotten??? at least we won’t. i can’t speak for others but in my defense, we love her name and will still use it, way more than if she was to have a nickname, especially since we’ve already been calling her her name for so long it’s pretty much engraved in our brains. it will not replace her name. it’s all fun and for “sometimes” purposes.

no i completely understand where you’re coming from though. my mom gave me a nickname from the beginning due to my name being complicating to pronounce and now nobody calls me my real name upto this very day, like literally nobody. meanwhile i’d very much rather be called it. i hate my nickname so much and everyone is so used to saying it
