Sma anti reflux - super thick

I know this stuff is meant to be thick for it to stay down for baby BUT even if I mix it constantly and stop him feeding to give a shake/stir it still ends up like this. Any one else have the same issue ?

I recommend carobel as well - can get it from pharmacies

I have never had this issue with sma.. can I ask how your making your bottles?

Avatar

is so much easier ! And you can adjust how you want it (thickness) you just add it to you baby normal milk. X

We have this milk. You put the water in first then add the milk and vigorously shake for a good 30
Seconds.
If it goes in first, added to hot water or isn’t shaken immediately it will go thick like your video

I didn't know they had a milk we just used gelmix thickener which really helped

I used the sma lactose free one and it does the same thing! Gets stuck on the side of the bottle, lumpy, stuck in the teat, it’s awful x

Carobel is much better for reflux. Used it with both my babies and it was a god send xx

Avatar

we have the Tommy Tippee prep machine so it does a instant hot shot and then we shake / stir and then it does the rest cold and the we mix / shake got a good minute. Also tried with kettle and was the same xx

I had this issue with this milk when I put the powder in before the milk, then we started putting the hot water in first and then the powder and it was much better x

I use aptamil anti reflux and this only happened a few times. Each time we add a scoop to the hot shot from prep machine or rapid cool we give it a swirl then add the rest of the water. Give it a good shake for 10 seconds and then leave for a few minutes. We find that the nuby rapid cool makes it a lot smoother x

We used cow and gate anti reflux, little boy didn’t like it because it was too thick and this was happening with his mam bottles too. We changed to carobel and don’t have this problem anymore and he prefers that x

Avatar

you need to do the hot shot and then the cold bit and then add the powder or it does this. It’s weird but you put the anti reflux milk in when it’s colder or it goes too thick like this! X

Avatar

Yeah, Hipp antireflux can be the same. I find shaking it really hard helps!

Avatar

We use carobel on our bottles. Only one scoop for 6oz but does the trick for us x

Avatar

anti reflux milk is usually made with boiled water that’s left to cool until warm , not boiling straight from the kettle. that’s what causes it to clog like that

Avatar

i tried my son on the SMA comfort and it did this!! it wouldn’t even come out when my son was trying to drink it, so we switched to Aptamil and it’s been amazing x

Avatar

You may be better off going back to normal formula and using carobel as you can adjust it.
You can get it on Amazon/pharmacy’s but also if reflux is a big issue the doctor can prescribe it !

Avatar

I used cow and gate Carobel and it’s so much better in her formula x

I also recommend carobel so much easier we used it with my little one when he had really bad reflux!x
