Hi mommas! Relocation Advice

My husband recently received a job offer for Lewiston, and we literally know nothing about the area. Can anyone help me with information of the following ?

- what’s a good salary for the area ?
- what is the pricing of rent
- what’s the average grocery bill for a family of 3-4?
- Surrounding cities that are within a 45 min drive
- Is the area good ? Safe ?
- what do the school districts look like?
- Honestly , what’s the weather like LOL

Please give me the raw truth real advice, this is a decision my family is not making lightly and we want to get at least a lot of info as possible. We were military family, just moved from San Diego CA to Ohio

Thanks in advance 🫶🫶

I'm just outside of Lewiston. Compared to anywhere else it sounds like you've lived, it's a SMALL city, that gets a lot of flack for being "bad" (read: poor) which is true, but its more diverse than a lot of the state which is a plus.
I can't speak too much to rent and cost of things but you'll have better access to stores than most areas. It's about 45 minutes from Portland which is the "real" city -- still small compared to California. I don't know details of salary but I'd say most folks in Lewiston are working class and many have labor jobs, or commute to bigger cities ( like Brunswick or Portland) for professional jobs.

Winters here are cold and snowy, but right now is beautiful. Its quite humid in Maine compared to a lot of other places. It's been 75 ish most days, there's lots of outdoor stuff to do in and around Lewiston, a lot of lakes super drivable from there. You've got farms, lakes, the coast, and other cities and towns not too far away. Rent will be much more affordable than say Portland

Lewiston not as bad most but it has it day . you better off living on the outskirts of city not downtown .

You wanna live in the outskirts or in auburn downtown lewiston can be dangerous, drugs and shootings, rent ranges but in my opinion it's pretty high usually 1200+ depending on how many rooms. Grocery bill will be high, I personally get food stamps but of a family of 3 we spend over 100 sometimes 200 a week for food. You can apply for wic they will help. I personally went to Edward Little for one year and it wasn't bad but I heard different things. Weather is moody lol, we have all four seasons and sometimes they blend together, some towns near by are Turner, Buckfield, Oxford, Leeds, and other towns as well. In my opinion I'd be better to be in auburn or surrounding areas rather then lewiston itself

What is that like 8 streets out of lewiston is bad . just said I was born and raised here. proud to said that . yes we have are bumps . Try living out of state . It’s 10 times worse. just said .
