Creams and lotions 😊

Hi all, first time mum here 👋🏼

Going to start buying creams/lotions/shampoos ect soon, can you all post your recommendations please? I go in to boots and just stare and I don’t want to buy anything that will irritate babies skin! 😬 it’s a minefield!

Thank you! 🧸

We like the childs farm body wash/shampoo & the aveeno moisturiser!x

A bit on the more expensive side but to begin with I’ve been recommended the avenno soaps & creams just because they’re super sensitive. Also been told try not to wash the baby too soon as the vernix will help naturally moisturise them in the first few days & weeks

Weleda is an amazing brand for a whole heap of baby skincare items. They're super gentle and don't have any nasties!

Aveeno to start with but dont be afraid not to use soap the first couple of weeks you really dont need anything! If you plan to breastfeed do a milk bath or a oat bath if bub skin is irritated. Otherwise just water is good enough❤️
My bub had a sensitivity to Johnson and Johnson which is quite common I hear, but if your nervous get small bottles of amazon and stick to it for about a week to ensure they dont have any reaction trail and error is the only way to be sure I'm afraid.

Aveeno did not suit my LO. She got red spots like rashes immediately. So just a caution that what works for other babies may not work for yours. You will have to experiment. But I agree Aveeno was our first choice too. Attitude is what suited our girl. Not sure if you will get this in GB or not.

Mustela has great products. I suggest buying the travel size of a few things if possible to try them out.

Child's farm, their sleepy range works wonders with my LB and he has the best sleep after a bath using it.

I also use infacare for the bath, it's got the proper baby smell, I love it 🤣

I use aveeno sometimes depending on what his skin is like too

I have boots own bubble bath and baby lotion which she's fine with, I've got an Avon bedtime lotion too and she's used Aldi bubble bath. So it just depends on the baby and their skin

We used weleda, Childs farm and aveeno. Still use all these and no problems

I wouldn’t go crazy with buying stuff, my boy is 16 weeks and we’ve only used water in the bath so far. They really don’t need much when they’re little, it’s just that the big companies want to convince us otherwise so that we spend on their products!

We use the my little coco products and love them

Aveeno is the only one that works for my son, he turnt out allergic to Johnson’s and aveeno is good if you have eczema in the family

I’ve always used Aveeno, both body wash + shampoo, and moisturiser. I’m now on holiday in a hot country and I’m using Aveeno soothing relief on her elbows and neck because of heat rash and it’s been really good to clear it.

I didn’t use anything up until one month though. And once she turned one month I used to moisturise with coconut oil in the morning and Aveeno in her evening.

I’d buy one pack (or sign up to Boots Parenting Club and they give one Aveeno body wash for free), and try it on your baby’s skin. If they don’t react, keep using the same brand.

We didn’t bother with bath wash for the first few months as it’s better to use just plain water. We did buy the child’s farm baby moisturiser but only used it sparingly and only once/twice a week at most as part of doing his massage.

For nappy rash I’ve found drapolene to be best but you can only really get it online or in pharmacies. Bepanthen is good alternative as a lighter barrier cream and metanium for nappy rash that’s a bit more stubborn but only used in small quantities if you are buying from the shops.
Avoid sudacrem as a nappy rash cream as it can clog the nappy but it’s useful to have in as an antiseptic cream just in case (used it more on myself than baby if I’m honest).

My advice would be to buy cotton wool and cotton wool pads as we went through a lot of those in the first few weeks (or a reusable alternative). We used them for doing top and tail washes and for my son’s weepy eye which can be common in newborns.
