CMPA

Has anyone’s little one been diagnosed with CMPA already?

I think my little girl may have it but all i’ve read so far is how reluctant doctors are to diagnose and usually just say it’s colic or reflux first. We have been using infacol for 3-4 days and symptoms aren’t improving. I myself am unable to drink cows milk myself. But i ended up at A&E the other day due to my little girl’s breathing and i’ve been reading today how noisy breathing and wheezing after eating is a really common symptom if CMPA. She’s also really fussy and takes ages to settle after a feed and no sooner is she settled that we have to start all over again with feeding😢

Any advice would be appreciated 🩷

We were at the doctors for the exact same thing today. My older boy had it so I know what to look out for. I’ve been taking videos and voice recordings of the beginning of the feed, during, after and an hour after you can clearly see /hear his breathing progressively getting worse wheezing sounds like there is something in his throat but can’t clear. I have to go back in 2 weeks time. It is a hard one at this age because newborn grunting etc is similar.

If breastfeeding eliminate dairy from your diet for 2 weeks and see if that makes a difference.

thank you!! I’m bottle feeding so elimination isn’t possible. However my nephew had it when he was young too and had the exact same symptoms as my little girl which is why I suspected it when it started. It’s just awful to know they’re uncomfortable and are struggling but can’t do anything to help. Can i ask how you approached it with the GP, please?

My first had it and now second has it too I swapped his milk to his brothers at the weekend and his symptoms improved, I went to the gp yesterday and they agreed with me and gave me prescription milk neocate the same as my first, my first was more extreme but he was left longer, my second had crying and arching on bottles, a rash, gunky eyes, mucas poo, loud breathing congested, unsettled, all got progressively worse but now everything is nearly all better after a week eyes and skin have cleared, poo is normal again, no more crying on bottles, I just went to gp and said I'm positive its cmpa my first had it said the symptoms and that I wanted prescription milk and she just did it no fight which I was pleasantly surprised about after my first was such a fight xx

Thank you all!! My little one is only 3 weeks, she has a mild rash around her eyes and forehead, more dry skin than anything. She’s always really unsettles after a bottle for a good 2-3 hours, arches her back when trying to wind and she sounds really congested most of the time but worse straight after a feed like there’s something in her throat. She also sneezes a lot straight after a feed too. I’ve taken videos of her, as awful as it is, to show the GP xx
