Vaginismus & painful Pap smears / intercourse

Hi Ladies,

Few days ago at my doctors appointment, my doctor indicated me that I may have vaginismus. Reason being I was not able to go through the Pap smears exam multiple times (tried on different days & times).
I am 32 and I have failed 4 attempts for obgyn trying to do Pap smear exam over the last 4 years.

The very first time couldn’t even let the smallest spatula in because of so much pain. The second time made progress & she was able to get it in. But ohh boy when she tries to open it up slightly inside it’s not “just some pressure” it is freaking painful.

I am attaching the size of the spatula she used and she said she couldn’t get the sample but I do see some mucus that was there on spatula when she took it out. My doctor was gentle & supportive. She recommended pelvic floor physical therapy. But I don’t even know how to comprehend this situation.

Also my intercourse is sometimes tiny bit difficult/painful.
I think I could have slightly low tolerance for pain. We have been trying for couple of months and not been able to get pregnant possibly because it doesn’t go in properly & liquid doesn’t stay in.

What are my options here? What worked for you guys?

Thanks a lot for sharing & helping.

For vaginismus, all suggestions u will get here are right(pelvic floor therapy, yoga/meditation/hypnosis, dilators) but for getting pregnant with vaginismus, try-
1. Dilation before intercourse and increase size gradually
2. Home insemination kits
3. Talk to your doctor about IUI, IVF etc while you work on your pelvic floor muscles. Just because u have vaginismus, doesn’t mean u have to wait until it is 100% cured to get pregnant
