My little one went to his doctors for his jabs and a routine check up. When little one was laying down the doctor held his hands and pulled him up into a sitting position. It just didn't sit well with me. Aren't we told that we need to be careful because of their joints? Just wanted to see if this is actually a routine thing to be done or if I should mention at his next appointment that it worried me? My baby is 17 weeks.

My doctor did this at his 8 weeks check. I’m pretty sure it’s just to check for head/neck strength x

I can’t remember where but I read somewhere to start doing this now. My baby is 17 weeks too and I’ve been doing it for the last week or so with no issues.

My doctor did this at 6 weeks check up and she said it's to check the baby's strength , arms and neck 🙂 I didn't expect it and wondered wth is she doing but before I could jump and ask she was explaining as doing so..

I was also told to practice this at home to strengthen her neck/head balance and belly muscles (good for rolling, sitting later on etc x)

Thanks guys. My little one was born 6 weeks early and only 3.5 pounds so I've only had his check ups at the hospital with his consultant/outreach team, not this doctors yet so wasn't sure. There wasn't really any communication at all. Makes me feel a bit better x

sure that's completely natural behaviour to be protective of our precious babies and I am sure you are even extra cautious knowing your baby is extra fragile, little bubba ❤️ no harm asking for reassurance that's what we're here for 🤗 but if you ever feel like something doesn't sit well with you don't hesitate to ask right there, trust your instincts 🌹

I was like that at 6 week check up, but same as above, they check how baby is responding. You can slowly practice at home, only pull when baby is flexing arms, if they let go, let them down. I found the best position to start that is when I had her on my knees, so she wasn't flat down anyways

We’ve done this (as recommended by midwife and health visitor) from 8 weeks old. Fairly common practice, though if you go to any baby sensory class they’ll tell you to sit baby up by supporting their under arms, neck and taking all the weight! 😊
