Non-maternity maternity clothes

Hi everyone,

Second (and last) baby #2 due Ideally February. I don't want to invest in maternity clothes, but want to be super comfy and still look work appropriate (I'm an RN in a doctors office where scrubs aren't necessary). Does anyone have recommendations for cute pregnancy friendly clothes that aren't maternity specific?

Thanks!

I think it’s hard not to invest in maternity pants. I would recommend looking for scrubs secondhand. You can resell them afterwards.

id say any stretch leggings i lived in my flare leggings and my biker shorts but maybe long dresses i liked those too i never really got big so i never ended up buying any maturity clothes and just wore my husbands

Have a look on Vinted for some maternity trousers I got 3 pairs for £5. Not sure how you’ll manage winter without some comfy trousers

I really recommend investing in a few maternity clothes. I tried not to last time and by the end of my last pregnancy, how my clothes were fitting me (either uncomfortable or ugly) was really getting to me. I finally caved and bought maybe 5-6 items and it was 100% worth it. I bought them used and it amounted to maybe $100 total. A couple of the pants i wore I continued to wear not pregnant. They were just super stretchy waistbands with pants and i just folded over the waistband when i wasn’t pregnant. One of those items is one my most comfy work outfits (: there is definitely a market for market for pants that “grow” and shrink with you for women of child bearing years. Someone could make a lot of money with the right item 😊

Ok so I live in skirts as they can be moved above or below the bump. Just have to pick flowy ones that will give you enough room to cover the bump if you wish. I'd invest in the belly bands though, as you can wear you skirt below bump, wear a belly band, and have a regular shirt gathered to the side with a hair tie and tucked under to hide it. Bigger shirts work but they do look baggy, depends on the look your going for 🤷‍♀️

If you look up minimalist mom's or minimalist pregnancy outfit, ive seen som good YouTube vids on using or repurchasing your current clothes to make it work. But they still usually get you to get a few select pieces to make it work.

Also, as you know it can sometimes take a while for your body to go back after birth. Being comfy before and after I found really important.

Try second hand stores for pants and other maternity. I found them the hardest to stand while growing.

Shirts and Dresses that are fitted only to the bra line work really well and are flattering and not clingy as you’re losing afterward. I bought a couple pairs of jeans a couple sizes up, and they’re great for afterward as well when you want to wear “real clothes” but don’t fit in your pre pregnancy size yet. I also suggest buying maternity leggings. I plan on living in them this winter. I’ve also been buying a couple long, roomy sweaters that will cover my butt and my bump for the winter months. You can get great stuff through Facebook marketplace as well. I haven’t bought many maternity things elsewhere because they’re so expensive

I bought a size up in my lululemon sizes for a few things that look professional and clean since I know I’ll still wear them post pregnancy. I did get a few more things specially maternity items from Walmart that were cheap, cute and comfy that were totally worth it.
