Anyone had a tear that did not heal properly?

Anonymous because I'm embarrassed to share, even though I know I shouldn't...

Just want to know if anyone else had issues with their tear not healing properly. I'm having a procedure to "fix" it and feeling rather anxious about it, so I would love to hear other experiences.

I had a small second-degree tear, and every midwife who checked the stitches said it was barely visible and healing well. I tried looking back then, but it was so swollen and painful (which I was told is normal after a traumatic birth) that I couldn't really see well where it was. So it was a shock at my GP 8 week appointment to be told the tear did not fully close. I am now seeing a consultant privately as the NHS waiting list to see a gynecologist is horrendous and was told is not that it did not close, but extra skin has somehow grown due to how I was stiched. This makes me so angry and frustrated to think it shouldn't have happened at all. I had an otherwise really good healing and now feel like a setback as I'll have a fresh set of stiches and several weeks of recovery - again!

Sorry about the long vent, I haven't shared this with anyone else other than my mum and my partner, and even though they are supportive, they obviously can't relate to how I'm feeling.

Not this time, but first time around I had stitches done too soon after being in the birthing pool (or so the midwife said this time) so my stitches were too tight and a lot of them ripped for me, this caused a lot of pain and I just thought it was normal.
I asked the Dr to check them at my check (which was at 8 weeks) and they explained that the stitches had seemingly ripped in places but the skin was healing and recommended waiting for them to heal fully (gave me the option to have them neatened up, but I was pretty traumatised and the GP said that it was healing so they wouldn't recommend) it took me until about 12 weeks to have no pain when sitting, and I was so cross with myself for not speaking up sooner, as then they would've restitched.
This time around was a breeze in comparison for stitches and the midwife did a lovely job (I think it's probably neatened up the mess of last time tbh!)
Sorry you're having to go through this, and sorry I can't advise on the corrective procedure, good luck! Xx

This is exactly what happened to me! First off my episiotomy didnt heal, but then once that healed the tear opened up 🤦🏻‍♀️ i had some bridging of tissue so the GP snipped it, however I now have a sinus there (a small hole/tunnel). I really had to push for a referral back to gynae and I'm sure they only took me seriously when I dropped into conversation that I'm a nurse. One GP asked if I was finished having children, and then basically said there's no point fixing it til I know I'm done. Anyway, I won't rant 😅 but I hope you get fixed up soon. I've booked in a consultation with a private pelvic health physio because I'm definitely not the same down there. It might be worth having a look to see if there is one near you? Xx

@Abby thanks for sharing! I also feel angry at myself for not pushing harder to get it checked properly early on when I was in pain, but they probably would have told me to just wait until it was healed anyway. Xx

@Chelsea that's exactly what I have, bridging of tissue that created two tiny holes! Thank you for sharing, I tried googling it and could not find anything, so had no idea what was going on or how common this is. It is appalling they said is not worth treating it until you are done having children, is this standard advice? I didn't even het to see an NHS gynae as where I live there's a 5 month wait just to book a consultation - for next year. Luckily I was able to go private and will have the procedure this week. The consultant said she will give me exercises for after the stiches heal, but will look for a physio if needed. I hope all goes well with your consultation Xx
