Non verbal and pre school
Hey mamas! my son is four years old as of June! He is autistic and nonverbal, and I’m feeling very nervous and a little bit stuck on what I should be doing for him for education. This is the age that he would be going into preschool, but I am nervous and not comfortable putting him into a school when he cannot vocalize for himself.

I just moved to Oregon in May and my son who is also Autistic is 14. All I can say advocate for your son!
I want to plan on staying with him, at least until I feel like he’s good and maybe doesn’t need me so much. I don’t know I feel so confused. I want him to learn and excel! I don’t know what helps him the best.
my son was nonverbal for a long time. But when I took got him into prek in Michigan i realized it was so much better for him to say goodbye and let him take the special bus. He found that so fun
I would strongly recommend looking into a company like RISE Services or similar! I worked for RISE for a while before switching to in school DSP work but they have amazing Direct Support Professionals that are trained to help develop intellectual skills in nonverbal kiddos! Even if it isn’t necessarily in school these DSP’s are well trained to support educational goals. Best of luck :)
I was worried too my son is autistic and kinda nonverbal still ( knows some words but not where he should be at) his preschool teacher picked up on his body language and would work with him through a tantrum. I would voice any concerns you have with the teacher. There also might be speech therapist that could work with your son
