Re-introducing carbs fear

I've been managing my GD with diet and now been told that I can test every other day as my levels have been really good which is great and I feel really lucky. The nurse said I could even have a midnight snack (GD sensible snack) as I go to bed so early my fasting hours can be for 12 hours. They even suggested I have a few cheat meals as I'm quite skinny and they are worried I am loosing a little weight from the strict eating.

But I am really struggling with reintroducing carbs as I've kind of trained myself that certain foods are "bad for me". I have plenty of beans and lentils etc. But no potatoes, no bread, no pasta etc. Has anyone else found this? I don't know what I think will happen - I guess I just don't want my birth plans to change. I'm 33 weeks.

Give it a go for one meal at a time. If you eat something like bread and it doesn't cause any issues, you've now added one more food that's ok. Then add another.
Another thing you could try is adding more protein or volume to your existing meals. It can be foods you know are safe but adding extra calories somehow.
I only put on about 7kg in my pregnancy and most of that was before I was diagnosed with GD (though I had a bit of extra weight to buffer me). My baby is just fine 🩷

Maybe try brown pasta and rice, I can’t tolerate white at all but if you haven’t had any it might be a good way to start
