Will my baby have been too cold in the night?

Worrying that my daughter will have been too cold in the night. The temperature in our bedroom was 25 degrees when we went to bed so I just put her in a long sleeve vest as I didn’t want her overheating. During the night it went down to 23 so I put a Muslin over her legs but she kicked it off. It felt too warm for a sleep sack but now I’m worried she will have been too cold. She was a bit restless but she did sleep 2 4 hour stints which can be normal for her. She’s 11 weeks old. I’m really worried the restlessness meant she was too cold and I didn’t pick up on it. What do I do when the temperature changes during the night? I’m really conscious that it’s dangerous for her to get too warm.

I'm worried this morning too. We slept downstairs last night as its cooler down there. Little boy went to bed fine in his vest and blanket. I woke at midnight and put some socks on as his feet had escaped his blanket and I pulled his blanket back up over his belly and chest. He seemed fine. Then he woke up at 4 something for a feed and his arms and chest were cold. I put a babygrow over the top of his vest and he warmed up. He seems fine this morning, I'm just worried that he was too cold 😫 so hard knowing how to dress them in this weather x

Your LO would have 100% woke up crying if they were too cold. Your baby won't let you if they are too warm, but can if they are cold.

Just remember, back and chest is where to check for temperature, cold hands and feet are fine.

I’m sure she’ll have been fine really but we got a 0.5 tog sleep sack that’s super thin on Vinted (for £1 plus postage!) and it works a treat!

I second the 0.5 tog sleep sack! Great for super warm nights, he seems to sleep better in one even now he's 12 months.

Babies wake up if they’re cold, they keep sleeping and moving around and whinging if they’re too hot. That’s why overheating can be a cause of SIDS as when a baby is too hot they are also fatigued and struggle to wake. So no I don’t think your baby was too cold. If it makes you feel any better, our room was 24c when we went to sleep. She had a short sleeve bodysuit & a 1.5tog sleeping bag and I left the zip open. I also leave the window open all night! At around 4am she woke up, temp was 22c & her legs felt a little cold so I zipped the bag up and she went back to sleep. I always trust sleeping bags, 1.5 tog is perfect for 21-25c with a short sleeve. I never trusted blankets or muslins because of baby kicking it off or getting tangled up in it. You can even get 0.5/1 tog bags quite cheap second hand. X

Better too cool than overheating. If she was uncomfortable, she would've woken up and let you know about it. Don't overthink it, you'll drive yourself insane x

Thanks everyone. I’ve just ordered a 0.5tog sleep bag on Amazon for same day delivery (£9.80 if anyone else is looking for one). We’re going on holiday next month so it will get a bit of use then as well.

My little boy slept in just a nappy last night and was absolutely fine ☺️

Perfect temperature for baby to sleep is actually between 16-20 degrees according to health visitors seems pretty cool 🥶 to me but that’s what they advise so I’m sure she will have been absolutely fine. X

If they’re cold, they’ll wake up and cry! You’re better off them being underdressed and a bit cold than them overheating. They can’t tell you they’re overheating, but they can if they’re cold!
