Hospital bag - cellular blanket?

Hey everyone I'm confused. All the announcement photos I see is little babies in the hospital plastic boxes with cellular blankets on. Aren't we advised sleeping bags are better? Does the hospital provide the blanket? Some lists say to bring one and some don't? I'm booked at St Thomas so if anyone knows what the deal is there please let me know! I have ordered a blanket just in case but I think we would only use it at the hospital then switch to sleeping bags. I did get 0.2 and 0.5 togs as well as both our flat and this hospital seem to be boiling even when it's cold outside.
Thanks so much in advance

Hey ! I gave birth in st Thomas about 6 weeks ago. They don’t advise sleeping bags so take a blanket. They did provide a blanket but best to also bring one too. My little girl slept in a vest, baby grow and blanket in the hospital as midwives advised it. Since coming home my flat is also really warm so I don’t wrap her up so much as feel shel be too warm! The sleeping bags I had also said to only use from 9lb onwards - she is using them now but we didn’t use until last week until she was over this weight so just check the guidelines :) xx

We always used swaddles and sleeping bags with our son at nighttime but did purchase cellular blankets too. I used them when he was a newborn a lot as he was a November baby. We used them in the car, when he was in the pram and just general naps at the beginning when they aren’t on a routine as such. I also used them for when he was lying on the floor playing or doing tummy time so he wasn’t directly on the carpet. Hope this helps!

I gave birth in st Thomas 9 weeks ago the midwives say sleep bags aren't safe for new borns even the love to dream ones, especially at night so they say blanket. They use a towel blanket at birth but don't provide you with a proper blanket you need to bring it

We took a homemade blanket. Newborns usually get dressed in blankets. I was St Thomas’ too and sleeping bags for newborns are a no no.

Most sleeping bags have a weight l/size limit starting at 4kg. Double check the starting weights of the bags. It’s so they are big enough for their head and body to not slip down the bag.
I used blankets until my babies were the correct weight and then sleeping bags all the way!

Blankets can be used as long as the don't go past baby's nipple line. Have a look in the lullaby trust website

I think blankets are absolutely fine when they’re little, it’s when they’re starting to roll and move about in their sleep that sleeping bags are better in my opinion x
