I originally thought I'd return to work in Jan but after quite a lot has happened I am thinking of taking the full amount of time and delaying a few months. Will I get in trouble for changing the date?I did say a date in the email but also said I'd confirm nearer the time. So that's the bit that is worrying me.

Hey, you shouldn't. Just let your workplace know ASAP so they have enough notice to get cover.
Thank you. I did say a date in the email but also said I'd confirm nearer the time. So that's the bit that is worrying me.

Your entitled to 12 months legally so no you won't get in trouble and if so I'd say that's a HR issue. And if you tell them now you have given them loads of notice. All companies should always assume the full 12 months should be taken anyway, that's what my place have done. I haven't given them a date at all

I’m thinking of doing the same and have been reassured by asking many people who have said the norm is 12 months. I’m going to speak direct to my boss about it before going to HR and doing so with plenty of notice - in order to keep things as light as possible.

With my company i had to give them a date of return, i have since changed that date as I extended my leave. I read my company policy and it stated i had to give them 12 weeks notice if i wish to extend :) x

My works gave me 12 months as standard but I will be going back at 9 months as I can't afford 3 months with no pay and bills rising. I have to give 8 weeks notice when I want to return if before the 12 months x
