Got my 20 week anatomy scan yesterday! She is so beautiful and so full of life! She is kicking me as I’m typing this🥰. The doctor was poking her a bunch to try to get her to move her hand from in front of her face and we were rewarded with the biggest yawn! It was soooo cute!!!
We did get a little bit of bad news. One of her kidneys isn’t working and the doctor said that he sees no good tissue in that kidney. The good news is that the other kidney is perfect! After the shock and freak out that both my husband and I had, we were able to ask a bunch of questions and do some research. Because that is the only thing they found wrong with her, there is very little chance that this will impact her quality of life. She may have ti get surgery after she’s born and will only have one kidney but you really only need one kidney to function and she will be healthy as long as we take care of that one kidney.
I’m happy I got to see my little girl and that she is mostly healthy. Of course you never want to hear that something is wrong, but in the grand scheme of things, at least it’s just a kidney and nothing else! I’m a bit worn out today because of all this but I get to see this adorable picture and that makes me happy!

she’s beautiful what a great pic! praying for her💕

My husband works in kidney transplant and can confirm that you only need one kidney! They monitor kidney donors to make sure they are okay after giving up a kidney and typically they have zero issues going forward. I got to chat with some at a donor recognition ceremony and they said they really didn't even notice a difference with their missing kidney. Bodies adapt to these sorta things. Like her kidney will probably be larger than the average person's since it'll be doing extra work but it won't hurt her. Definitely not fun news to hear, but I'm confident she will be able to live a normal healthy life. She's gonna be just fine! I'm glad everything else sounded okay! 🩷🩷

thank you, that really helped! It definitely makes it easier hearing that other people have this and have no problems!

If it makes you feel any better, my husband was born with a tumor on his kidney and had to have it removed right after birth. He's 30 years old now and has never had any issues at all😊

that does make me feel better! Thank you!
