Thoughts on other half’s going for nights out when you’re 36 weeks? I’m not sure if I’m just over worrying but is it too close to baby potentially coming whenever he feels like it for my other half to be on a night out (an hour away from our home/hospital) and getting drunk? He doesn’t go out often but I’m so paranoid he’ll be un-contactable if needed! Advice pls 🥹😂

My partner works away so I had no choice in the matter. He came home the day before my section was scheduled

It's a tricky one isn't it, I don't want to stop him but we just don't know when baby will arrive either.

I've said to my husband I don't mind him going out locally and not overdoing it. My worry would be I'd need to go into hospital and he'd be drunk or something 😂 he said he wouldn't want to go on any big nights out from now anyway so quite lucky!

I wouldn’t be okay with it, but I also wouldn’t be in a relationship with someone who is even interested in doing things like that. It’s just a personal preference. I told my husband he has to stop drinking after 38 weeks, or be limited to one a day. I wouldn’t like it if he weren’t home with me in the evenings.

My partner chose to stop drinking at 36 weeks just incase I went into labour early and needed taking to the hospital. I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable with that distance either for the same reason but I guess it depends on how you feel about it x

No way! Especially from 36 weeks

Mine is stopping at 36 weeks too

My one has stopped 35 weeks. I had to ask him and he is allowed to have one beer max. I was quite strictly and said that he drinks more or go out, I’m giving birth on my own.

My husband has been terrible all through out my pregnancy, just constantly going out and drinking. I’ve had so many talks with him about how much it upsets me but he doesn’t listen. I’m now 35 weeks and he’s just decided to join a darts team on a Tuesday aswell as playing football Monday and Wednesday. They all result in him coming home late at night from the pub. Now I’m 35 weeks I’ve told him that’s it and I’ve had enough of it and I need him here with me. I was more upset he joined a darts team 5 weeks before I’m due to give birth?? It’s really upset me through out my pregnancy and he works night shifts so I’ve felt very lonely a lot of the time x

My husband and I have agreed that we won't be more than an hour away from each other and that he won't drink an amount that would take him over the driving limit just in case. I think sometimes men don't realise the possibilities or how we are feeling

My partner worked away and changed firm to be closer to home the further along I've gotten. He's also chosen to stop drinking at 33 weeks in case anything happens. At the end of the day, it's personal choice and down to you guys and how you feel.

@Megan I'm really sorry that you are going through this, do you think he's going to step up when the baby is born or continue being like this? I'm not sure how you are dealing with it, I know I definitely couldn't personally 😢

It needs to be his decision, he can't really pause his life for potentially over a month. It's valid to share how you're feeling though and maybe he will take that into consideration and go easy on the drink, check his phone more often, etc.

Wouldn’t bother me at 36 weeks. 38-41 would bother me if it wasn’t local.
I’ve still got lots of stuff booked in right up to 38 weeks so wouldn’t think he should have to stop

I wouldn't have a problem with it, as long as he has his phone on loud and maybe the number of a pal he's with in case labour started. Remember early labour is usually reaaally long. An hour isn't that far that you can't get an emergency taxi home. It would probably end up a funny story in the event that you did go into labour so early 🤣

I am super independent so I would probably be okay with it, but my partner goes away for work. I think I would be irritated with him for having fun without me knowing he could not get here in time (drinking) while I struggle away (that would irritate me). Maybe you could try chatting to him in a calm way and ask him, will he be okay if you catch an Uber/Ambulance if he is not home and make him aware he stands the chance at missing the birth.

My personally opinion is that men/fathers can make sacrifices too. We have sacrificed a lot to carry our babies, not going out, not drinking etc so I think they can do the same for a month at least.

My partner worked away through most of my pregnancy so when he’s with me he stays sober to support me and not make me jealous! His idea not mine. But with him his mum had to drive herself to hospital because his dad had had a few beers so we took that as a cautionary tale! I’d say if you’re not comfortable then it’s not unreasonable to ask him to stay home with you that last few weeks. It’s not forever and you’re doing all the work just now for you both. Xx

Mine has agreed to always be under the limit so can drive me to the hospital. Some nights he has to work that is different and luckily few and far between around the baby’s due date

Going out no problem, getting drunk is probably not the most practical approach. Obviously you won't need to go to the hospital straight away, it can be hours for early labour. Getting back home in an hour is fine, but extra time to sober up - that's something you don't want. You want him to be there for you in his best form as well :) hangover birth partner is useless too 😅

I’m so sorry you’ve had to cope with that on top of pregnancy too😢

Thanks so much for all you opinions ladies 🥰 I didn’t actually end up saying anything and was going to try and have an evening without my worry head on! But he changed his mind on his own and decided not to go out in the end! Yay 🤗 xx
