I’m sure I’ve read this is a no but my mum has just text to say that you should top up with water because of the heat. Wondering if guidelines were different back then? Thanks x

I thought it wasn’t recommended but I have seen a couple saying their giving their little ones a couple of oz’s here and there x

I was told no water (by it’s self) till 6 months but my mum and Nan also asked if I was giving her water due to the heat so I think it must be a thing they did back then!
I mean at the end of the day it’s just water and I can’t see it being an issue if you really needed to!

same with my mum! Tbh I bet drinking milk constantly makes you so thirsty especially in this heat. I tried my little girl a little bit of cool boiled water tonight and she was not interested at all(first time doing it) x

The NHS website does advise that formula fed babys can have sips of cooled boiled water on hot days, but night time should be kept to their milk. I have been giving my baby a few sips here and there due to the hot weather we're having, and I've noticed her soft spot at the top of her head has been sunken which apparently could mean she's dehydrated x

Cooled boiled water is okay in small amounts to prevent dehydration & also recommended a little bit if baby is constipated xxx

I believe its a no for breastfeed babies. And not recommended to formula until they are older.
Something to do with their kidneys.

Baby’s kidneys can’t quite cope with a lot of water so if you do decide to give your baby some, please be careful with the amounts. But if your baby seems well and not dehydrated then I wouldn’t bother. You are correct, the guidelines were different back then and your mum’s advice is outdated!

HV said not to give them water because it will fill then up and then wont drink as much milk, so either way they will have the same intake of water but less nutrition (formula fed)

Breast fed babies no, formula fed yes, the health visitor said it’s old guidelines to not offer cooled boiled water, she told my to give my little girl 1oz throughout the day in-between feeds (she’d often cry for more so I gave it her) as long as it didn’t replace a feed x

If formula fed their feeds are made up of water, I've been told that if giving water then they will feel full but have had no nutritional value from the water. I personally wouldn't offer water unless little one had completely dropped off their normal milk and could potentially then be dehydrated...but that's my personal opinion x

yeah my girls so fussy I can imagine her just looking at me like wtf is this?! Get me my milk woman 🤣

@Jessica really? Oh no 😢 it's strange because it'll be sunken then goes baxk to normal? I'll give them a call just in case and see what they say xxx

@Jessica I've just fed her and whilst sat up it's sunken but laid down it's not? I'm worried now 😫 xx
