Laying on back

Hi ladies!

I have a wax booked today, I’ll be on my back for only 10-20 mins, I presume this is okay? I’ll be propped up as long as possible until I need to be flat for a short period?

Thanks

It should be fine! When you go for scans or monitoring, you would lie down for that long at least. Your body will also start to let you know if it wasn't feeling right so just tell them you need to sit up for a bit if you start to feel funny x

I ended up really unwell at my last scan, but I was starting to not feel well and just ignored it and didn’t say anything until I really felt like I was going to throw up/pass out. So as Nikki above said, if you start to feel unwell, say something and immediately turn over onto your left side. I ended up having to have tea and biscuits and stay for like 45 minutes until I was feeling better 🤣🙈

At my last scan, I started feeling dizzy on my back within few mins and had to quickly switch to lying on my side. Same thing happened at my midwife appointment when she was checking baby heartbeat and measuring bump. I started feeling dizzy and then had to sit propped up. In both cases I wasn’t even completely flat on my back, there was some incline.
So 10-20 mins is a long time, look for any uneasiness and immediately switch to your side.

When I've had waxes I've asked to be propped up rather than flat on my back, maybe ask for that?

At my scan y’day (36+1) I was on my back for a few mins and my legs started feeling weird like I couldn’t get them comfortable then my head/vision/hearing went all funny and I almost passed out. They said if it happens just quickly go on your left side but I wouldn’t recommend lying flat for a long period at this stage at all xx

you explained it so well! Same thing happened with me. First my legs felt funny, and slowly arms and then head, I thought I’m imagining it but soon felt like passing out, and then turned to my side and immediately felt better

haha thanks, yes it’s such a weird sensation isn’t it! I know it’s happened a long time ago when I’ve had bloods before but I remember sat there thinking “why would I feel squeamish at my scan” 🤣 so now I’ve learned that feeling is nothing to do with being squeamish and just means you’re gonna pass out for whatever reason. Pregnancy is such a learning journey 🤣 xx

Thank you ladies! Turns out it’s next week for my wax. Baby Brain 🤦🏻‍♀️😂 I will deffo be as propped up as possible, I think I can be almost seated on the bed for most of it and a slight recline for the last little bit! and if I feel unwell at all I’ll move position immediately 😃 xx
