When to start weaning?

So my little girl is 5 months old & I have no idea when to start weaning her? She watches us eat our food & puts her toys to her mouth (I know it’s not food 😂)

When do I know when to start? & what sort of foods do I do? This is our first baby, so I have no clue 😂

Here is a picture of our little girl 🥰

They say to wait 6 months but I’ve given my little one baby porridge and stuff to try. She’s 5 months old. It’s better when the can sit up unsupported as there’s less choking hazards. I’d try porridge and puréed food that say 4-6 months and then when baby is 6 months start weaning solids slowly. It’s better if they have a selection of food on the plate to and let them feed themselves. Nhs website has good advide:) hope this helps! https://www.nhs.uk/start-for-life/baby/weaning/what-to-feed-your-baby/from-around-6-months/

Can she sit well supported? My little guys watching us eat and will try and snatch food. But im waiting for him to be able to sit a bit better supported. He's just gone up to 8oz of milk. Was 5 months on the 6th. He's had a taste of a few things but il be introducing breakfast at 6 months:)

no she can’t, if I pop pillows behind her or she is sat on the sofa she can but not by herself! But I’m going to wait until 6 months aswell ☺️

I highly recommend following Solid Starts on Instagram. They give loads of really useful tips on weaning, signs of readiness, first foods and how to serve different foods. My little boy is only 4.5 months but I feel so much more confident about starting him on solids when it comes to 6 months

Hiya! I can see you’re from Hampshire. Hampshire Healthy Families org do this free online course if you don’t want to pay for a weaning course. Here’s the link. I did it last week and it’s a good starting point.
