I left my sons father and for the last six months I’ve been taking care of my child alone. It’s been difficult for me to work. I had to work from home job and couldn’t keep up with the work so now I don’t have any job. He doesn’t see our child. Only FaceTime him barely once a day for like five minutes. He doesn’t take care of him but his family thinks that child support is for lazy women. I’m nervous if I file for child support him and his family are going to try to get custody of my son and that the judge will give it to him because I don’t have a job or car and I had to move back in with my parents. I should also mention that I’m not against 50-50 custody because I do want my son to have a relationship with his dad but we don’t live in the same state so it would be pretty difficult. My son has everything he needs he’s very well taken care of but I’m just in a bad spot right now so I don’t know what to do.

I don’t think a judge would grant him custody if you and your son have been living in a different state for over idk how many months it is like 3 or 6 or something basically because they don’t want to uproot the child’s whole life. So I wouldn’t worry too much about that, I do think that you should file for support though unless he’s already helping financially. Saying child support is for lazy mothers is such an ignorant thing to say who cares what she thinks! Mothers almost always take up for their deadbeat sons I’m sure you’ll be the villain in her eyes regardless of what you do
so since my son’s been born he’s contributed $500 total compared to me literally footing the bill for EVERYTHING so that equals out to $100/month not even ..i never ask him for money so maybe that’s on me but i even sent him an Amazon list, since i have his stuff shipped to me & he knows my address so i am totally fine with him shipping things that are needed instead of giving me flat out money
I guess im just scared

His family sounds equally as trifiling. Child support is not for lazy women. Child support is for the betterment of the child. The fact he's only contributed 500 dollars when it's usually 1000 plus a month for childcare and you sacrificing your job...
