Sitting

Is anyone else’s baby still not sitting? My baby is 8 months old now and still can’t sit for even a second. I’m starting to get worried so I spoke with HV and she said they don’t worry until babies are 9 months old. We’ve tried lots of different things to help him practice but nothing seems to help.

We do a couple of baby classes which started back this week. We are now in 6m + classes and my baby is the only one who can’t sit in both classes 😔 there are babies a couple of months younger than him sitting. I know we shouldn’t compare but it’s so hard not to worry!

Is it just his sitting? How are his other strength abilities? Like rolling, head holding, movement in general? Xx

thank you for your honest reply. We did recently have his tongue tie divided after months of feeding issues and being told on numerous occasions he doesn’t have one! The tongue tie practitioner said she could feel some tightness in his left hip. We’ve had a couple of sessions with one osteopath and not seen any results so we are seeing another this week. When we put him into a sitting position he seems to arch back and try and lay back flat so I’m wondering if he is late sitting because of some issue/ tightness/ pain in his hips which may or may not be related to the tongue tie. He’s only a tiny thing too, currently on 2nd centile so he looks tiny compared to other babies the same age who are bigger and visibly stronger.

I’m not quite sure why I even bothered asking the health visitor because I’ve lost all faith in the NHS after the numerous services who have let us down and got things totally wrong!

Just feeling like the worst mum :(

yeah he’s great at rolling. He is getting up onto his knees and the flats of his arms/ sometimes his hands and trying his best to crawl but can’t figure it out yet. He is moving around all over on the floor by shuffling on his knees and sort of lunging himself and I don’t feel like he’s a million miles off crawling. He has really good head control and can hold himself well when sat on our knee, it’s just when we try and put his legs on the floor.

He isn’t yet bearing weight on his legs well, doesn’t pull himself up, stand holding furniture etc. I’m not too concerned about standing etc but have a feeling he should probably be bearing weight on his legs by now too…

My baby is 7 and a half months old. She is not yet sitting up unaided. I’m not worried. She’ll get there in her own time x

My daughter can’t sit yet either, the doctor at the hospital told me when she was there for a check up that the milestone isn’t until 9 months so not to be concerned. She’ll be 8 months too in 3 days but 7 months corrected age as she was early.

thank you, I know I shouldn’t worry and he will get there when he’s ready!

thank you. Yeah before I spoke to the health visitor I did think the milestone was 8 months so it’s good to know it’s 9

They do all develop differently. My little boy was about a week off 6 months before he could sit, but it’s taken him until over 7 months to roll, and now he’s 7.5 months he still can’t roll onto his back. He also can’t balance on his knees and his hands at the same time to start crawling. I know he’ll get there though.
Your little one will just do it one day, that’s how my boys done everything. Doesn’t matter how much practice etc we do, he just goes from not doing it to waking up and doing it x

We were really pushing for sitting up training to start weaning but the thing that seemed to make the biggest difference was always having her sat between my legs using me as a back rest whilst she played but she would then support herself somewhat and it got better over time. After weeks of that she could sit independently for a couple seconds and then suddenly could sit for minutes at a time (but I’d put my feeding cushion behind her if I wasn’t right there).

With everything they do it’s seems to be so suddenly that they master something and then it’s like they’ve always done it!

Sorry you’ve felt so let down by the NHS.
