How does connecting work??

Hi, I'm very new to this app and I just don't understand it 😂 I've only got the free version and if people wave at me I can't wave back? Even if I don't look at the profile I can't do anything? How am I supposed to connect with the people anyway? Anyone who could shed some light on how this app works? Tia!!

I think connecting is when you've waved at them and they've waved at you -- it's blind on the free version until you've both waved and if your on the paid version you know before you've waved back.

Do I make any sense?
