Job ambitions
Hi there,
this is a question for those of you who have gone back to work, particularly those in the teaching profession. :)
I currently work 3 days and have been teaching for 14 years. My little one is 17 months.
A head of department role has been advertised, and although I am really keen to apply, I am worried if I have another child then it would harm the department if I went on Mat leave again. I know if I was a man this would not be a problem, but it is playing on my mind. Is anyone else in a similar position? Is there any advice anyone can give?

As much as you need to think about the department, if you're allowed to grow your family. I was a head chef running a whole kitchen/department before having my LB. I haven't gone back to work, just because my hours are stupidly long, no work-life balance. I'm pregnant again. But planning next year September to go to uni to do teaching 🙃
If your basis for not applying is based on "ifs" then push those ifs away and apply!
You said if you have another baby... you may decide not to or you may decide to have another baby in five years!
As you said, a man would never have these worries. Apply and cross the mat leave bridge when you come to it.
