Going from breast milk to formula

what formula should I use? I just can’t do this anymore I’m such a shit mum it feels like I can’t feed him enough and I get so fustrated cause he’s always hungry and has been like it for 10 weeks I just can’t do breast feeding anymore it’s killing me mentally, at least with formula I know he’s getting enough and hopefully we will both be happier

you are not a shit Mum! My little boy is 13 weeks and I almost gave up breastfeeding around weeks 5/6 as my little boy was unhappy and I felt like he wasn’t getting enough.. Have you definitely made the decision to change to formula or are you happy to take suggestions?

definitely. I actually felt today just giving up on everything, we are currently in the car the only thing that sends him to sleep

Your definitely not a shit mum! I was in the same boat but I only managed to breast feed for a couple of days as he would just give up and fall asleep as my supply was slow, started expressing my milk which was better and could see how much he was getting but I still wasn't quite producing enough. I did get told you can top up your milk with formula if you really do want to keep giving little one your breast milk. Aptamil is the formula I'm giving my boy x

Breast feeding is so challenging I nearly stopped last week but decided to express for a few days to give myself some breathing space. So I expressed and gave him 3.5/4 oz every 3 hours. I was advised to do this and not make a rash decision bcos once ur milk supply drops it’s hard to get back. I have now re started breast feeding but I express two bottles per day one for a bedtime bottle and one for a morning bottle. I also express if I’m going out anywhere as this works best for me. If I’m in the house I feed whenever he’s wanting it etc. don’t be hard on yourself it’s bloody hard very mentally draining, along with sleep deprivation it’s rly hard. If your set on stopping completely u need to wean him off not only for a smoother transition for him but to reduce your risk of mastitis and engorgement. So you need to drop a feed and replace it with formula so drop one feed initially then slowly ween away from it xx

I jjsg noticed your other post about Kendamil as well I tried my baby on 2 oz of this as I thought he wasn’t getting enough from feeding, however turns out he was just having a fussy phase. Anyway he was hysterical after having this milk, very windy screaming constantly and constipated. He never cries usually so we ended off at a and e thinking something was majorly wrong , turns out it was that milk

My baby is combi fed and he’s on sma advanced and he’s thriving off it

what did you go on then ?

I haven’t tried another formula yet I’ve been expressing

I didn’t want to try another bcos gave his vaccines coming up and wasn’t sure if cmpa or not so didn’t want try another close by to anything else that could make him unwell then I’d know, tbh the way he was I’m worried to try another
