My almost 15 month old always seems so interested every time she sees another kid and is always trying to walk up and say hi and play with them! How can I give her more opportunities to socialize?? Other kids don’t seem as interested in playing and talking as she is and I just don’t really know what to do? I just don’t know how to go about letting her play with other kids like she’s so little and can’t talk very much so I’m not sure how to like make friends for her!? Any ideas!?

ughh i’m in the sameee boat :( i’ve tried setting up playdates for my little one (the same age) and most other kids are “mean” or don’t really want to play w him, quite honestly , i’ve had the most luck with 2 years and older 🥲 but it’s still socialization! he seems to have the most fun with them ◡̈

omg yes! Like some kids just don’t seem interested at all and idk how to like help? We had a play date with a kid around 2 years old but she like didn’t really want to share or play with her at all and just kinda did her own thing but my daughter seems like she wants to actually play with people ya know?

This! All the other little kids her age just stare at her blankly hahaha. But I’ve found that older toddlers / kiddos aged 4-8 love interacting with her! I think at this age it’s just about letting them be together and figure it out, even if it doesn’t seem like actual socialization is happening.

yess i completely understand! ughh it sucks we don’t live in the same state! i feel like this coulda been perfect for us 😭

You don’t need to do anything actually. Just let her have her moments to explore socially. Kids like to play near each other and not with each other at this age so just live your life and encourage your kid to be herself.

Same boat! I'm looking for Mommy and Me activities and Groups for Toddlers and stuff.

great advice! Thank you!

aw man yeah!!

yeah very true! She just seems more interested in interacting than others! Like she will go up and say all the words she knows and like wants to walk around with them 🥹

my kiddo is the same way! We just have a couple of extroverts on our hands 😂

hahaha yeah I guess!! It’s so funny like any kid any age she’s like “hi! Hi! Hi!” It’s so funny and cute

My baby would love to play with your babies! But I don’t know anyone either… it’s sad but I’m sure eventually she’s get more buddies!

that would be so fun! Yeah I just can’t help but feel bad and I know she’ll have more opportunities in the future to play with other kids but I can’t help but want to help her and give her more opportunities to meet other kids!

The playground is great for this! My baby isn’t particularly interested in other babies his age but he always ends up making “friends” whenever I take him to the playground! Usually it is slightly older kids who gravitate towards him and they end up playing together with me by his side to facilitate. It’s been so sweet to watch and has honestly happened nearly every time we’ve gone to the park. The children room in the library/storytime is also a fun place to meet other babies!

I also think that even if other babies her age aren’t interested in playing or don’t know how to share, it still offers important socialization. She can still observe how they play, what they are interested in and learn about different temperaments and boundaries. It reminds me of when my toddler wants to feed me, I’ll eagerly accept it if I’m in the mood to have a bite, but if I’m not, I just say “no thank you” even if he was very excited to give me a bite. I try to remember that as much as I want to delight my baby and meet his expectations, true socialization means that doesn’t always happen. I hope learning this early on will make him well adjusted.
