Hey guys as most new mothers, I’m sure the thought of going back to work is super dreadingggg 😩. I was just wondering how it’s been for parents who have been back or for those who decided not to return. Are there any teachers or TA’s that decided not to go back and didn’t have to pay back the money?
I’m in a bit of a sticky one as I wouldn’t mind to make up the 13 weeks up but Childcare is looking near impossible with my pay (and partner’s). I have a meeting with the school on Monday to basically explain my situation and trying to find out if anything can be done as I just don’t think it’ll be possible for me to return to work 🥲🥲🥲 as in I’ll be better off not working and raising my child than going back to work and spending on childcare. God willing I can get myself a work from home job or even work at a nursery as that comes with 50% off for employees. On that note I have been testing the market and even been offered a role at a nearby nursery but will have to try and get out of my current teaching assistant role which ends in late January. Has anyone got any advice or know of anyone that has been through similar situation?

If you've accepted your school's additional maternity top ups and not opted out, then you do have to go back for the 13 weeks unless you pay it all back in which case they'll probably be fine with it. It's at your school's discretion I believe, they may agree to a reduction in the amount you pay back or a reduction in the time you need to work, or agree to flexible working (I'm going back 3 days a week if they allow me) so you can share childcare with your partner as best you can to avoid nursery costs.. Good luck! 💪🏻
