Warm clothes in carseat

As it is getting closer what are you planning for your little one to wear when using the carseat?

I was told not to dress the baby in a pramsuit if I intend to put her in a carseat due to the risk of suffocation. What if it's really cold outside, temp below 10C degrees?

You can buy blankets for car seats, which is what I use for my daughter. They have poppers on so it’s clips together and away from their mouths. This is similar to what I have… https://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/style/st524598/640794#640794

Carseat blankets and regular blankets are fine please don't put them in snow suits etc as they are a hazard should an accident happen xx

The car blankets aren't generally recommended it's best to check with the car seat manufacturer as most add ons to car seats aren't recommended. Just popping a blanket on them should be enough and if you or someone can preheat your car for 5 minutes before setting off too will help. Could pop a hot water bottle in their seat for a couple minutes before they sit in it so it's not cold when they go in too. The risk of a pramsuit in the carseat is also them over heating then and also that most of them are padded which means you can't pull the straps tight enough around them x

I would still dress them the same and just pop a blanket over them in the car

The car seat blankets that the buckle straps thread through aren’t recommended, they’re not crash tested with each car seat so could potentially compromise the safety of the seat in the event of crash. I usually wrap baby in a blanket whilst walking from inside to the car or have his coat on, then when I get to the car take them off and put him in the car in his indoor clothes. I cover him with a blanket if it’s very chilly but my car heats up quite quickly so I often take the blanket off after a few minutes.

It’s not recommended to thick pram suits, coats or thick jumpers and jackets as they can affect the fit of the seat and can become compressed in a crash so the straps end up being too loose and might not hold baby in place safely

My first was a winter baby (born in September) and I would always just do vest and outfit in the car and put a pramsuit on when we got out the car. I would warm the car up first or if it was really cold a blanket
