autistic mums (NOT mums of autistic children), how do you cope with your meltdowns?

so i don't get them often, but when i do have an autistic meltdown they're fucking TERRIBLE. my mum is fucking useless and has always treated me like a psycho ever since i was a kid so i certainly can't rely on her for any help.

but when i meltdown i have to punch or really firmly grab something which usually results in me doing it to myself because i'm not a kid anymore, and i need to try and control it as best as i can. but then like now i'm covered in cuts & bruises because i physically can't do anything else. my kid's normally in bed so i can't make a sound and i can't just sit still or anything like that.
i normally end up crying, unable to breathe because i literally cannot inhale enough, & hurting myself.
and i don't know what to do.
any therapists or doctors etc in my area are fucking USELESS because somehow no one in the area has any knowledge on autism and it's frustrating but that's a different story.
and no, distracting myself doesn't work.

any advice?

I'm so sorry that your not getting the support you need from family and mental health services. It's tough when people don't understand what your experiencing. I don't know what you've tried already or what you might do normally so I'm just gonna list some things that might be useful to you. Get yourself something safe to hit/grab and squeeze so you don't hurt yourself further (giant body pillow, firm triangle pillow, punching bag) move (safe stims, fidget toys, spin etc) do whatever you need to do to get that energy out safely, get a decent pair of headphones and listen to binaural beats (other music may work better for you, I prefer melodic rock/metal music) most of all give yourself some grace and love. Do you know what triggers them normally and can you work on avoiding/eliminating it? Also please keep seeking help, take a look at the national autistic society website to find out if there's resources near you.
