@Amy we did this too. The pack n play comes in handy later!
I had a toddler as well, so we slept in shifts since one of us had to be awake for her. Main space was downstairs with a double halo but two singles would have been fine! That way we had a TV and snacks since they didn’t really sleep at the same time. We had two singles, one on either side of our bed, but they never slept in there. They went from the double halo downstairs to their cribs where I slept on a mattress in there once they started to actually sleep after each feed. Finally at 5m I moved back to my master! If they were my firsts, I’d definitely do two single bassinets on either side of the bed.
We had a bedside twin bassinet with a divider in the middle, but they never took to it. We slept them swaddled in the same crib for a little while, until they outgrew it and then they each got their own crib in the same room.
I know it's against safe sleep protocols, but mine sleep so much better next to one another than they do separate.
According to the AAP guidelines, it's safest for them to have their own individual sleep space such as a bassinet, crib or pack n play.
My twins didn’t sleep together. Now they are 4 and they hate sleeping with each other
My twins have never slept in the same bassinet or crib
My twins have literally been sleeping together since they were in the hospital. I have the twin sleep pack n play and tried to have them sleep in them but they were not fans. They are 5 months now and still sleeping in the pack n play (minus the bassinets) every night. I think it is just a comfort thing for them at this point and they are very use to one another. When one wakes up crying the other will sleep right through it. I'm surprised they're not more co sleepers, just because I heard it's kind of common with twins.
The nurses for me made it very clear that they needed to sleep separately in order to follow safe sleep protocols! We had planned on having them sleep together but then they told us that and we had to get two bassinets the night we got home
