Hello! Do you mummas have any tricks for your LO's to take Omeprazole? My boy gags and hates the taste, we give it to him with a spoon and that's slightly better than with the syringe. Can it be mixed with milk. Thanks! Xx

Hi Anna, why is your little one taking omeprazole of you don’t mind me asking?

he's been prescribed by the GP for his reflux

My little one is 2 months old and is struggling

Honestly mine still hates it but I just syringe it into the back of his cheek, mien says you can mix it with juice, non carbonated water or apple sauce, my sun is too young for food (I’m waiting until 6 months) but the leaflet says no milk but not sure if that’s formula. Could call your pharmacy!

I mix it with breastmilk and feed by syringe, but it is HARD work and a lot of tears

We use the syringe that came with the calpol bottle, always in side of cheek and I do an inane sing song yay isn’t this yummy and lovely voice 🙈 works most of the time, not all! X

mine is 2 months too, he's been on gaviscon but it constipated him so no help. We're now trying omeprazole, hopefully it works 🙌🏼

thank you, yes mine is too young for that too. I'm scared he's going to choke if I force it lol 😆

ok, so mixing it still doesn't fix the issue then 😅

🤣🤣🤣 what we do for them lol

I use the bottle teet, for all stuff
Calpol, gripe water etc and he just drinks it like a bottle
Syringe into the teet and place into their mouth they think ohhh bottle

did you get omeprazole just because the gaviscon constipated him or was it not working? Currently struggling with reflux baby he is on gaviscon and has carobel to thicken his milk xx

I also use the bottle teat! He takes it no problem but hates it if I syringe into his cheek x

We put it in our sons milk, just put it in 30ml/1oz milk so you can make sure he takes the full amount of omeprazole and then you can fill the bottle with the remainder of his normal feed!

great idea! I tried with a bottle, but it's such a small amount that it got lost lol. He's breastfed though so doesn't always take the teat 🤪

gaviscon gave our son bad constipation and so we got omeprazole and he is sooooo much better! No reflux and no constipation!

the gaviscon wasn't working great, no, plus constipation struggle is same or worse, so the gp suggested Omeprazole, let's see 🙌🏼

jumping on this - did your Gp or pharmacist say this was ok! And do you have the liquid or the tablets ? I thought we couldn’t mix with milk so have been powering through trying to get him to have it!

yeah, the mixing hasn't really helped, but perhaps it's too cold for him compared to the breastmilk that he is used to(?). Tbh though, if the omeprazole hasn't dissolved down enough we also getting it stuck in the syringe which is another issue, so I'm thinking I'll try the calpol syringe tomorrow and see if that helps...we had tried bottle too, but as LO is breastfed he can be picky about taking a bottle sometimes

yeah, I know, I tried to "push" it down with my boob cause he wasn't swallowing, but he was gagging lol. They mixed it for me at the pharmacy so consistency wise it's ok.

I just realised I put the wrong son 🤦🏻♀️ not sun! And they’re good and spitting things back up, I usually get covered though I won’t lie it barely works for my son, he’s still constantly sick and I’ve done everything in the book. Can’t wait for him to be moving more as it should calm down (he’s already rolling but needs to be up up)
