Cold / blocked nose

My little boy is struggling badly with a blocked nose. He's not sleeping or feeding very well because of it. I've tried saline spray and the Snot sucker and he absolutely hates it. Like total 10/10 meltdown. Anyone have any tips on how I can make him feel more comfortable. Feel so bad for my little dude. Hate seeing him like this 😪

I know this may be a no go for some - but when our LO was suffering with a cold we used to put something on the tv.
My partner would hold her & I would attempt the sucker to get it out….

Not sure if you’re formula feeding or breast milk, but our midwives also recommended using a dropper for the saline instead of spraying & also using some breastmilk.. breaks through the phlegm

I think you can get a plug in vapour thing from calpol and there's vapour bath stuff too x

Hi Sophie… my little one was the same.. the only thing that really helped was shower steam… so basically, run a hot shower for 5-7 minutes.. then take the bub and cuddle him in the bathroom.. just standing in that warm steam.. it opens up their nose… get snot a bit runny… no need for the snot sucker… also prevents a dry throat… do it 2-3 times a day please… it will def help

the tv kept her distracted for just enough time to get some out

Breastmilk worked really well too… and it doesn’t go to their throats like the saline.. so they don’t hate it

It could be worth giving some pain relief too, he might have a headache or sore throat as well as the visible symptoms.

We littlerally use everything

Calpol plug-in
Vapor bubble bath before bed
Vapor rub on chest

The only thing I’ve yet to sort is a humidifier for her room which apparently can really help with congestion!

How old is your lo? Can they have water yet? That’s something I find helps is keeping them as hydrated as much as possible throughout the day I always offer her a beaker of water and and extra bottle if she wants it as this helps thin the mucus/snot

Rio Dream Time Aromatherapy Oil Diffuser, Humidifier, Night Light. 100ml Ultrasonic Cool Mist and 7 Colour Changing Lights https://amzn.eu/d/bZaQxsy

You can add a drop of olbas oil for a little extra help with congestion, not to much of though as it’s potent 😂

Shower steam and the Cal pol vapour plug helped loads for us!!

We find the baby olbas oil is great for clearing our little girls blocked nose. Plus vapour baths, calpol, snufflebabe chest rub, saline spray and the calpol plug in

@Jessica we tried the shower method and then sat and watched a film for the first time.. he fell asleep sat up against me🥲 which never happens. So tv deffo worked on this occasion. Thank you 😊

@Beth thank you! We have the plug in. Do you use it during the day or just at night?

@Olivia thank you! He's almost 8 months so he does have water with solids. I will try offer a bit more water today as he's pretty much refused the boob except one feed 😔 thanks!!

Humidifier has been a game changer for us when colds hit! I even got one for myself when I noticed how much easier my daughter slept! 🤣
