Freelance life and maternity leave

Today I had a chat with my boss (who runs a small business, only me and another colleague who work for him) and he told me when I have my baby in March he can’t guarantee if I would have as much work as I usually do (I’m a full time freelancer 9-6 job, just don’t get paid holiday or sick pays anything else is like as if I’m an employee, sucks I know) he says working from home won’t be ideal either… I feel so sad. I can take up to 3-4 weeks depending on how things go and after that I won’t be able to afford not having this job basically… I cannot have time off work for more then 3 weeks really because I can’t afford it. Anyone else in this position? ☹️😔

I was. And I took the full maternity leave my job provided me. Went back to work to save up for another 3 months and quit lol. I gave myself 3 full months to find a FT remote position. And I did. In 2 months. Don’t underestimate 1. Updating your resume, 2. Seriously applying to 5+ jobs that you actually would work a day, 3. Utilizing Indeed, LinkedIn, Staffing agencies, etc. That worked for me. I wish you SO much luck, mama !!!

My current job is 100% commission based. After my last baby I was back to work 3 days after I delivered. And will be doing the same thing this time around.

@Lindsay

It’s just that maternity leave doesn’t really apply to me and today he basically told me when I leave to have a baby he can’t guarantee I will have a job after…

@Kimberly because of medical reasons I’m gonna have to have a c section and don’t know what my recovery will be like… I just feel so sad cos so much is changing with the baby situation and life and now I have to worry about my job too 😢

Oh I get it now @incognito. Yeah I would start looking for something from. Home than if you can. Not sure where you are located. But if in the US try upwork.com some is freelance. Some is temp to perm work but majority is all work from home. I might be in the same position. Currently with this pregnancy I was just told I have placenta previa and if it doesn't clear up I will have to have a c-section also so I completely get that. With healing.

@Kimberly thank you Kimberly. I’m based in UK (London) hope you’re ok with your pregnancy and won’t have any complications
