Tongue tie

Hey, my little one is 4 weeks old and has struggled with gas pain, reflux etc. I have been breast feeding and feeds have always taken over an hour (which I was told was normal!!). After seeing a lactation consultant they confirmed he is tongue tied. I am unsure whether to go ahead with cutting it - has anyone else had experience of this? Should I get it cut??? Worried it’ll make feeding worse 😭

Yeah we had the procedure done 2 weeks ago. Best decision. Instant relief. He was very clingy and unsettled for around 48hrs but it's healed now

My LO had a tongue tie cut by a lactation consultant when he was 2 weeks old. Similar to you, I had a rough time feeding with wind and reflux basically caused by bad latch. After I got the tongue tie cut, I expected a massive change but in reality it was minimal, latch still wasn’t great and my nipples were getting damaged! His wind and reflux also got worse! I’ve stopped breastfeeding now and only give baby expressed milk and it’s made such a massive difference- hardly any wind and we can actually lie him on his back now! Tongue tie division works in most cases to improve feeding, but it doesn’t help everyone and there is a risk (albeit small) that it may intensify any issues you have x

My cousin had tongue tie all his life and it was finally discovered when he was 15! He had it cut and he said it changed his life, he said he had struggled swallowing food his whole life but just thought it was normal to not be able to swallow food properly as he knew nothing else 🥺 my LO had tongue tie and they did it while we was in hospital, the risks are low but personally I’d recommend you do it early whilst they are small

Just had my 5 week olds tongue tie cut and breastfeeding has definitely improved. He’s maintaining his latch, and feeds are much less painful and more efficient!
