Introducing Baby

Hi all, I'm due to be induced on Monday. I have two cats, and we have recently gone through a lot of changes in our home. We had a third cat (Maine coon) who had kittens and just as her final baby was rehoused, she passed away. This has had a large impact on the other twos behaviour - they are a lot more cuddly and protective. However, I am worried how they will react. My male 2 year old cat is overly affectionate and quite big. He hates sleeping anywhere that isn't our room at night. My female one year old is more aloof and is very defensive. Any advice?

It’s probably a bit late to start the stuff I would recommend as for months we would play baby noises really loud and we got a doll and put it around the house in places the baby would be so they could get used to it! We ended up staying in hospital after birth for nearly a week so my partner brought home clothes from the baby and let the cats smell them and get used the scent being around the house! But try not to be stressed, our two boys (house cats) were and still are very cuddly! They still sleep in the same room as us and baby and have never once tried to get in the cot with her! Majority of the time they don’t even care about her 🤣 but when they do they’ll give her a quick sniff and that’s it! There still confused by what she is I think haha x

I have 2 cats too qnd they have always stayed away from my babies especially first as soon as she started to be on the move the cats legged it to a safe place 🤦‍♀️🤣 although we do shut them out of our bedroom, our cats are still really cuddly more so once my eldest has gone to bed but they still avoid my newborn one may sniff her and walk off it's really reassuring x

My cats are largely uninterested in our baby. They tend to keep out of her way. I was very worried but so far it’s been a bit of a non event

My cats were very unsure of our baby but now after 6 weeks they come and nuzzle & lick her head while I’m sat with her. It took one of them a bit longer to come round to her but they knew to be careful with her from the beginning I think. I have had to stop them trying to step on her body like they would with us and from snuggling up too close to her face, one of them is a bit more keen on her and had jumped in the crib twice but I think she was trying to check on her when she cried 😂 we didn’t do anything to prepare them for her coming, they were both sleeping on the changing mat till right before she arrived

Good luck for today! I hope it’s a quick one for you!! ♥️🤞🏼

My cat has anxiety and has been overgrooming giving herself bald patches and weeing on our bed as she's so attuned to the changes in our house and my hormones (7 months pregnant). She has attachment issues and closing doors makes things worse so we can't keep her out of our bedroom. We have diffusers and tried kalm aid in her food but nothing seems to help.I'm really worried how to handle things when the baby arrives..does anyone have any similar experiences/advice?
