My daughter is 5 months old & has tested positive for covid today 🥺
She has a temp & is a lot fussier than normal as expected.
I’ve been giving her infant calpol but her temperature doesn’t seem to be coming down much with it, so I wanted to ask if anyone has given nurofen alongside calpol & if so how often can you give both?

I think there needs to be a two hour gap between the two medications - so they only have each drug four hours apart, if that makes sense! But I would call 111 for advice on that 👍🏻 I don’t think you’re supposed to give them double doses like that unless instructed by a doctor

Please seek medical advice to check this but... when my son was unwell a couple of weeks ago I contacted my GP with regards to how much calpol I could give in one dose. My son is on the bigger side for his age and based on weight to dose, should have 5ml but it is only 2.5ml for under 6 months. On speaking with my GP, he was happy for me to give my son 3.5ml in one dose.
If the medicine isn't working effectively then this may be the problem too?

My daughter had Covid last week and we had the same issue re temp. She had both calpol and Nurofen but not at the same time, we alternated between the 2 so calpol then Nurofen approx 3 hours later then calpol 3 hours after that etc.
2.5ml of each as per the instructions x

Are you breastfeeding her? If so, your breastmilk will give her all the immunity that she needs. I had covid when I was pregnant of my boy and we were both okay and then my partner had it when my boy was only 2 months but we didn't even get it so baby and me got quite lucky. Regards to meds, I'd call 111 or health visitor to ask advice and read leaflets on both.

Thanks all. Yes she’s EBF 🤍 I took her to the out of hours GP as her temp was still quite high & they’ve recommended using both calpol and nurofen (not at the same time as mentioned above) and they also gave us antibiotics for her as both of her ears were red and swollen along with her throat so they said she may also have an ear infection :( my poor girl! I’ve just given her nurofen so hoping her temperature comes down and she can settle for the night x

Glad you got her checked, I hope she’s doing a bit better this morning!
